Welcome to the European Micro Cup - the scientific game of microfluidics! The three episodes each represent your ticket to a whole new dimension of micro-scale technology. In this episode you will learn how microfluidics work, why it might be safer visiting a micro-arena instead of a macro-arena and how microfluidics will change the future of the scientific game. Graduate with a double degree from two internationally acclaimed universities. ‘Maritime Engineering’ is a Nordic Five Tech (N5T) programme. This means that you get to study at two out of five of the most prominent Nordic universities: Aalto University School of Engineering in Finland, Technical University of Denmark, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, or Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. The main focus of the Maritime Engineering programme is design, construction, and technical operation of ships and offshore structures — including hydrostatics and stability, hydrodynamics, wave and wind loads, propulsion, and structural analyses. The teaching methods include lectures, assignments, workshops, and project work. Theory is supported by experimental work and computer simulations are used intensively. During your first year in the programme you do courses within maritime engineering as well as relevant general and special engineering courses, These courses prepare you for your specialization in the second year which includes courses and your thesis work. The programme also includes activities where you get to network with fellow students and professors from the other partner universities. Photonics Engineering is a highly interdisciplinary MSc programme concerned with fundamental physics of light and optical components as well as a wide range of applications which are essential to our high-tech society, for example our ability to communicate using IT technology. The field of photonics covers all technical applications of light over the entire spectrum from ultraviolet through visible to near, mid, and far infrared light—and from lasers in CD players through the development of new, energy-saving light sources to integrated lightwave circuits and optical fibres. De logiske operationer i en kvantecomputer kan ikke beskrives med de klassiske, fysiske love, men med en underlig ny slags fysik, der strider mod al sund fornuft - kvantefysikken, forklarer Ulrik Lund Andersen fra DTU. Fysikken giver anledning til ekstremt effektfulde og hurtige computeralgoritmer, som ikke kan udføres på nutidens klassiske computere. The Arctic is a place unlike anywhere else. The ecosystem is fragile, the weather can be challenging and the infrastructure is scarce. These conditions make high demands on engineers working here. Cold climate engineering has an increasingly important role to play in order to ensure a sustainable development of the Arctic. New shipping routes as well as mining possibilities are emerging in the region. The development of new industry in the Arctic region is intensifying fast and the industry now demands engineers who have specific Arctic competencies. Whitesides, Harvard University: ‘Soft Robotics’ Abstract «Robotics» is a field with broad interest: it combines mechanical engineering, information science, and animal physiology with manufacturing, workforce development, economics, and other areas. The most highly developed classes of robots have been build based on conceptual models provided by the body-plans of animals with skeletons (humans, horses), and have made it possible to carry out tasks that humans and animals could not (for a variety of reasons). We are interested in robots based on a different, simpler class of organisms (invertebrates: starfish, worms, octopi). Because these organisms, and the robots having designs stimulated by them, have no skeletons, they provide enormous opportunities in materials and polymer science, rather than primarily in mechanical engineering. This seminar will outline one approach to soft robots, and suggest problems and opportunities in this new field.
