AJAX - Comment Box with [ Javascript jQuery JSON PHP MySQL ] - Step by Step How to Guide - Part 5

13:56
In this video we make the button holder and also then style and position the button container in the correct place. We also want that the button only appears when the user hovers over the comment box entry. This is then completed with CSS, hover effects are very powerfuk in CSS and if done properly, it can save you much time and hassle. Many people think that they have to use Javscript to accomplish a hover effect, this would be wrong, there is a time and place for javascript.

MySQL - Linux - RESTORE MySQL Server ROOT Password

06:33
In this tutorial I show you how to reset the root pasword for your mysql-server if you have either forgotten it or didnt ever know it. You need to be logged in as root on the server in order to change the root password of the mysql server. Firstly you need to stop the mysql service by issuing the command, "service mysqld stop", then you can issue the next command of "mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables", this will then start the mysql server without checking the privileges and especially the password. Once you have done this you will need to open another terminal window, and simply issue the command "mysql", this will log your straight into the server. Now, execute an update command to change the password of the root user, in the user tables of the mysql database. "update mysql.user set password=PASSWORD('password') where User='root';". Execute the command, it should then tell you that there have been rows affected. From this point you need to flush privileges...which I forgot to mention...Ooooops. Although as you can see from the video everything worked just fine. From this point on you can login as normal. Firstly you will be required to restart the mysqld service once again, because it is still running in mysqld_safe mode. Issue the command, "service mysqld restart" then you can login to mysql normally, providing a password and username if required.

MySQL - Remote Access to MySQL Server on Linux CentOS 6.3 Part 1

17:05
In this tutorial I talk you through installing and configuring a MySQL server to allow remote access on Linux using CentOS 6.3. So first, download and install the mysql server: yum install mysql mysql-server Next make it so as the mysql server with be running on server startup, issue the following command: chkconfig mysqld on Next start the mysqld service service mysqld start Next run the command /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation in order to set the root password and to delete other users and ultimately to stop the root user from having remote access. Then you can access the mysql server, to make a new user, which you can login in as rather than using the root user all of the time. We then editted the /etc/my.cnf, to allow the server to be access remotely only on the address of 10.10.10.30, which was the static ip address of this machine which we install the mysql server on. We add the following line to this file below the area which is [mysqld] bind-address=10.10.10.30 Note: this ip address needs to be static ip address of this single machine. Next we added a rule to the firewall by editting the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file, by adding the following line to it, above the ssh line: -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT Once you have save and closed this file, restart or reload the iptables: service iptables restart Potentially, this is the server ready to be used remotely, although you are still required to add a user which has the correct privileges: No more space available...best just watch the video!!!!

MySQL - CREATE Database Command in Terminal - Console [ SHOW SELECT DROP USE ]

08:21
In this tutorial I explain how to create, drop, select, show and use databases on a mysql server using on the terminal. It probably one of the simplest commands to know in the mysql syntax, and also one of the least used commands. I am how often is it that you decide to create a database. So you can create database, by simply giving the command: CREATE DATABASE database_name; Then to use the database: USE database_name; By giving the USE command, you are telling mysql that every command which you use that does not have a database prrefix database.table_name then it should assume that you mean the database which you have declared. To delete database, you should issue the following command: DROP DATABASE database_name; By aware, that this deletes all tables with it, therefore if you have data in some tables which you need then, make certain to back up this data prior to dropping database, You can always, tell which database you are currently using, by issuing the command: SELECT DATABASE(); This will list out the one single database which you have selected, or are using. If you havent selected a database to use, then it will display NULL You can get a list of all databases on this one server by issuing the command: SHOW DATABASES; This will then list out all databases on the server.

PHP Tutorials - Dynamic HTML Web pages using PHP part 2

09:24
In this part of the tutorial I start to cut the webpage into different elements that we can use dynamically, so we can save time later. The magic of a dynamic web page is simply that you do not need to update every page if you decide to change a link in the navbar then you will only need to update the included file and all of the pages will automatically update...

AJAX - Comment Box with [ Javascript jQuery JSON PHP MySQL ] - Step by Step How to Guide - Part 1

06:20
In this 18 part series of videos, I show you in full how to build, style and program an Ajax Comment Box. Potentially you will need a little background knowledge but, it is at a slow enough rate that even the newest of people to programming should be able to complete it. The page is very simple, it displays who is logged in and then provides an area where the user can then enter their comment. Once the user decides that this comment is ready to post, they simply just click on the blue Post button available. The information is then sent back to the server using Ajax, and collected by php on the server side. The data is then processed and inserted into mysql database. A signal comes back from the server in JSON form, to tell the client side, javascript, that they can insert the comment into the page. This is all completed without a page refresh. Point to note, this commment box will only work when JavaScript is activated. It has become a thing of the past to deactivate javascript therefore I would never worry too much about this factor. You would need knowledge of how to set up an apache server, or at least a web server with php and mysql capability! I hope that you enjoy these videos and learn something. With todays websites, every one needs some form of way to let their visitors give feedback. Therefore if you are not wanting to use the likes of facebook comments system, then you will need to know how it all works.

Animated Sliding Image Gallery with jQuery and Javascript Part 3

14:30
In this short video series we make from start to finish a animated sliding image gallery using HTML,CSS,jQuery, Javascript and a little PHP. You dont need to know any server side programming for this tutorial, I simply used it to loop through all of the images in one folder. This could be hard coded with just HTML. Enjoy watching the videos, it less than 45 minutes in length and by the end of the 3 videos you should have a better understanding of how to make a sliding image gallery. This gallery can be extended so much further, my aim was just to give you enough knowledge of how to do it, so as you can then extend it yourself.

AJAX Tutorial - Intro to Using jQuery's Ajax $.post Request - Part 3

11:33
In this Part 3, 4 and 5, We retrieve all users which we have entered into the database once the page has been loaded, place the user details into a select box, then when you change the select option to a specific user, it does a call back to the server to retrieve that users information. We then insert the users details into the relevant input boxes, such as first_name, surname, and dob. We are then able to update and modify the users information and then save the details in the database. This is spread over 3 videos, but it should highlight the amount of stuff which can be done with ajax.

Linux - Install Configure HTTP DNS BIND Server CentOS 6.3 - Config Static IP Address - Step 1

10:33
In this tutorial we configure a static ip address of 10.10.10.30 for the server and make sure that the /etc/resolv.conf file does not get written to when you put the interface card up and down. Currently we are getting internet connectivity through out gateway or at least we are resolving any dns requests through our gateway, in the next tutorial will then give our server this task. All web servers need to potentially have a static ip address so as their visitors can alway know which server the website is on. The next tutorial will configure the dns bind server, to resolve any dns requests made for out web domain.

PHP Tutorial - FORM $_GET and $_POST Super Globals

10:01
In this tutorial I explain when and how to use the GET and POST Super Globals within a Form and within a URL. This is a very important part of web design and programming, because a client will always want some kind of Contact Form or GuestBook on their website and I do not believe in using Javascript to collect and process information. A contact form should work regardless...... Listen carefully, this tutorial is one that you must understand and be able to do with you eyes closed... Good Luck

AJAX XMLHttpRequest - Javascript - Using POST Request - DETAILED - Part 4 of 4

14:15
In this 4 part series, we talk about how the XMLHttpRequest works. I basically cover the whole aspect of it in depth. Naturally you should and could use the jQuery ajax functions, as they are for sure easier and more reliable, although if done properly the xmlhttprequest can do as much as the jquery library if implemented properly. I talk about the different ready states which the request goes through. The order in which the events are fired, and which header data you need to send back to the server in order to have the post variables available.

AJAX - Comment Box with [ Javascript jQuery JSON PHP MySQL ] - Step by Step How to Guide - Part 4

11:07
In this tutorial we are nearly finished with making the comment area. All of the main comment boxes are completed. We have made sure that a user can enter lots of text and it spans over more than one line. We have also concentrated on making sure that the text sits properly in the box and does not slip over to one side, as you see further into this tutorial. Positioning elements in CSS can be a nightmare sometimes but the more you do it, the more experience you get about how to resolve these small issues. Unfortunately these small issues can take up much of your time if you cant find a solution quickly. I think within this one video you should have learnt some of the problems and naturally how to resolve them. In the next tutorial we start with making the button, in order for the user to delete the comment that they have just inserted, if required.

PHP Tutorial - Functions Part 3 - Global Variables

10:48
Global variables are Variables that are declared within side the php code but not declared witin side the command block/code of the function. To be able to use this value then you will either need to make this variable an argument or use the keyword Global to access this value.... Global variables can be altered too, this could cause a problem in the future workings out of the code... Be careful with Global variables they are useful but sometimes it could just be easier to place the variable within the function as a argument as optional or mandatory.... Have fun.....

Linux - Install & Configure HTTP DNS BIND Server CentOS 6.3 - Config named.conf - Step 2

29:06
In this part of the tutorial we, download and install BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Daemon), which is referred to on CentOS as the name daemon, or named service. We add configure the dns service to act as a dns server for this machine. Then we make a dns zone of home.local. The domain which we will be hosting on this server will be home.local therefore we need to know that the domain name can be resolved on this machine and on other network hosts. We have not configured the machine to allow other computers on the network to send dns requests, this will need for the iptables / firewall to be updated. I will cover this section within another tutorial towards the end.
