Survival Saturday # 9 - How to make a Thorn Hook

04:05
This week we dabble with a little fishing. We make a hook using thorns and attach to the line. We even spent some time fishing. I didn't catch it on video, but I had a good fight with a 10 inch perch. Thorn hooks have been used for thousands of years, and although they aren't as successful as acid dipped, barbed hooks, they are worth trying out. http://www.theoutdooradventure.net http://www.twitter.com/bcoutdoor http://www.facebook.com/TheOutdoorAdventure Music: Stumbling through the morning, Will John, Creative Commons usage. Gear Review: Swiss Ranger aluminum military stove

08:31
Paul from The Outdoor Adventure takes a look at the Military surplus stove/cook set called the Swiss Ranger. It is a solid fuel / alcohol stove that includes a 1 quart cup and 1 liter aluminum water bottle that can also be used to boil water. The stove can be picked up for around $10 at places like cheaperthandirt.com. If you're getting into hiking and backpacking and you don't want to invest a lot up front it is definitely worth considering. http://www.theoutdooradventure.net

Tilley Tec-wool Winter Hat Review

04:25
This review is of my Tilley Tec-wool Winter hat. I've had a Tilley hat for several years. This new one is a winter hat which is my go to hat for Spring, Fall and Winter. It features a water repellant, breathable wool with fold down ear warmers that are a huge help in cold weather. It looks goods and can be used in the back country or as a formal hat too. It has the same lifetime warranty as other Tilley hats and comes in at $105. it seems like it's a lot, but the lifetime warrant makes it more than worth it! http://www.theoutdooradventure.net http://www.tilley.com/Tilley-TTW2-Tec-Wool-Hat.aspx I have the worldwide commercial distribution rights to this video. How to roast a fish on a stone - Primitive Skills

05:30
In this video we take a look at how to fry/roast a trout on a rock as indigenous peoples did. This is a very basic skill that does a great job (it cooks evenly as the rock absorbs the heat). The biggest thing to remember is not to choose rocks that have trapped moisture in them. Please comment and Rate. http://www.theoudooradventure.net

Survival Trip (May 2012) Highlights

08:45
For those who haven't or didn't feel like wading through the 4 part ~45 minute survival trip videos I posted back in May/June, I decided to filter it down to about 8 minutes of just the highlights. Enjoy! This was a 3 day, 2 night trip I did with my dad in spring at about 800 meters. There was snow in the day time at that altitude. There were still snow packs at about 1000 meters, too. This was our first trip so we didn't do anything too crazy, the cold nights were enough. Hillsound Trail Crampon Pro

03:03
I put this video together on a recent trip up to the Glacier of Huayna Potosi. It was a blast hiking around in the Hillsound Trail Crampons. They're a great non-technical crampon. Also, it's my first real attempt at voiceovers and a completely different style of review for me. Disclaimer: Hillsound gave me the Trail Crampon Pros to test, but all opinions are my own. I was not paid to make this video. www.theoutdooradventure.net www.hillsound.com I have the worldwide commercial distribution rights to this video.
