Top BIZARRE Historical Coincidences!
Check out this top list of strange, freaky and bizarre coincidences in history! These creepy and odd facts are so weird and bizarre that they become absolutely unbelievable! Yet they still happened! Major Summerford Known as the "World's Unluckiest Man," Major Walter Summerford, was a British officer during WWI. During a battle, he was knocked off his horse by a flash of lightning and paralyzed from the waist down. He slowly recovered and eventually retired and moved to Vancouver. In 1924, as he was fishing by a river, lightning hit the tree he was sitting under and paralyzed his right side. 6 years later he once again managed to recover from the ordeal, and was going for a slow walk in the park when once again, he was struck by lightning. He must have been like, really??!! This time he was completely paralyzed and died two years later. But I guess Zeus or Thor or whoever wasn't done with him yet, and 4 years later lightning struck a cemetery and damaged the gravestone of, you guessed it, Major Summerford. 11. Karma is a... you know what... (Header= karma is a B****) This story is pretty sad. A young woman commits suicide after a failed relationship with Henry Ziegland. Her brother vowed revenge against Henry, the man who had broken her heart and shot him. Thinking that he had killed him, the brother then turned the gun on himself and took his own life. However, the bullet had only grazed Henry's face and lodged in a nearby tree. Years later, Henry was clearing that very land and decided to chop down the tree. Since he was having some difficulty he used dynamite sticks to blow it up instead. That sounds like a great idea. And that’s where his luck ran out – the explosion from the dynamite propelled the bullet into his head and killed him. 10. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams Former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of American independence. They were the last surviving members of the original American revolutionaries who had stood up to the British empire and forged a new political system in the former colonies. Jefferson and Adams had worked together to draft the Declaration of Independence, and also spent time together as diplomats for the new United States in Europe. They then became adversaries when Jefferson succeeded Adams as president in 1801 after a bitter and slanderous election. On opposite sides of the Republican and Federalist divide, the two men remained estranged until 1812, when Adams sent Jefferson a New Year’s greeting. The mortal enemies soon became friends again and their reconciliation led to a remarkable correspondence that lasted for nearly 15 years. On July 4, 1826, as the country celebrated 50 years since declaring its independence, at the age of 90, Adams lay on his deathbed. His last words were “Thomas Jefferson survives.” He was sadly mistaken: Jefferson had died five hours earlier at Monticello at the age of 82. Another curious coincidence is that in 1831, President James Monroe became the 3rd of the first 5 US presidents to die on Independence Day. What do you think? 9. “Miss Unsinkable” Violet Jessop was an ocean liner stewardess and nurse who is known for surviving the disastrous shipwrecks of the Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic. In 1910, Violet started working as a stewardess for the White Star Line, the creators of the Olympic, the Titanic, and the Britannic (which is a coincidence in and of itself, that these 3 ships were all owned by the same company). Bad luck? The Olympic was the largest civilian luxury ship at that time. Violet was on board in September 1911, when the Olympic collided with the British warship, The HMS Hawke. Apparently the suction from the Olympic had pulled the Hawke directly into the ocean liner. There were no fatalities and despite damage, the ship was able to make it back to port without sinking. She then became a stewardess on the Titanic just in time for the “unsinkable” ship’s maiden voyage in April 1912, when it sailed out of Southampton en route to New York City. The Titanic, as you know, struck an iceberg and sank just 2 hours later. 1500 people were lost. Violet helped other women and children into lifeboats before climbing into one herself. The third White Star ship, the Britannic, was used as a hospital ship during World War I. Violet was a nurse in the British Red Cross by then and was serving aboard the Britannic in November 1916, when the ship struck a mine planted by a German U-boat in the Aegean Sea. 30 people died in the explosion and the Britannic sank in less than an hour. More than 1,000 others were actually saved—including “Miss Unsinkable”.

Annabelle the Possessed Doll In 1970, a woman purchased a Raggedy Ann doll from an antique shop. She gave it to her daughter Donna, who shared an apartment with a friend. Then, things got weird. Donna noticed the doll would appear in other rooms. According to one story, she found it standing on its legs, unsupported. It addition, little notes started appearing around her apartment that read ‘Help Us’ and fresh droplets of blood would appear on the doll’s dress. As the unexplained phenomena increased, the girl called in some paranormal investigators who claimed the spirit of a 7-year-old girl named Annabelle Higgins moved into the doll after she was . Upon learning this, Donna and her roommate agreed that the girl could stay with them. Because every horror movie ever has proven that to be a good idea. Soon after, Donna and her roommate heard strange noises coming from another room. A friend of theirs went to investigate, only to run out of the room screaming with scratch marks on his chest. Donna contacted renowned “psychic investigators” Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens determined that a demon possessed the doll and wanted to possess Donna. Because such objects can’t be with fire for some reason, the Warrens took the doll with them to their Occult Museum in Connecticut. They put Annabelle on display in a cabinet with a sign that reads, “WARNING POSITIVELY DO NOT OPEN”. Demons must really be affected by these signs because Annabelle has only been seen to move a few times in her case but that’s it. 10. The Dybbuk Box In 2001, a man named Kevin Mannis purchased a wine cabinet that was auctioned on eBay. He immediately started having terrible nightmares, as did the people around him. He gave the cabinet to his mother who then suffered a stroke the very day she received it. Each owner since then has reported horrible events upon coming into possession of the cabinet. Its last owner Jason Haxton, Director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine, not only had nightmares but developed a strange skin disease and began coughing up blood. The origins of the box were traced back to a survivor. Some believe the box is possessed by a Dybbuk, a restless, usually malicious, spirit in Jewish mythology believed to be able to haunt and possess the living. When he heard this, Haxton, with the help of local rabbis, decided to hide the box from the rest of the world so that it couldn’t do any more damage. 9. ‘The Anguished Man’ Painting Supposedly painted by a man who mixed his own blood into the paint, this image shows a skinned man screaming. Sean Robinson inherited the painting from his grandmother, who kept it hidden in the basement—or attic, according to some versions of the story. Thinking, apparently, that a painting of a kinned man makes for some wholesome art, he hung it in the house he shared with his wife and children. His wife, being a normal person, argued with him over that decision but he ignored her. Soon after, the paranormal phenomenon began.Doors cracked open in the middle of the night followed by blood-curdling screams that seem to be coming from nowhere. But the most horrifying experience of all was the nightmares that each and every member of the family had every night since they hung the painting. Instead of just getting rid of it, when Sean and his family couldn’t take it anymore, they decided to research more about the painting. They learned of the artist, who himself shortly after completing the painting. Robinson took the painting down and supposedly tried to get rid of it at this point. It is believed it was up for sale at one point, but Robinson came forward to dismiss the claims. There are also YouTube videos showing some of the activity surrounding the painting. As is the case with these kinds of things, some people believe it is a hoax since very little information about the artist has been released. In any case, it is still super creepy.

Most AMAZING Creatures In Norse Mythology!

Huginn and Muninn In Norse myth, Huginn and Muninn are the two raven of the chief god Odin. “Huginn” means “thought” and “Muninn” means “memory”. Each morning Odin sends forth these raven and they fly over the earth. At night, they return and sit on his shoulders to tell him what they heard and saw. The connection between Odin and ravens is very old and deep. Already in the sixth and seventh centuries AD – well before the beginning of the Viking Age in the late eighth century – visual depictions of Odin on helmets and jewelry frequently picture him accompanied by one or more ravens. In the poetry of the Viking Age, Odin was referred to with kennings, and vice versa. A kenning is a common Old Norse literary device that uses images from a body of traditional lore to refer to something, rather than calling it by its everyday name. Odin is called the “raven-god”, the “raven-tempter”, or “the priest of the raven sacrifice”. In the same way, ravens are called “the greedy hawks of Odin”. Also, the sight of ravens immediately following a sacrifice to Odin was taken as a sign that the god had accepted the offering. The ravens are an extension of Odin himself. In fact, he fears they won’t return one day, leading to him losing some of knowledge and power. 8. Ratatotskr Scurrying up and down the Norse tree of life is Ratatoskr, a mischievous squirrel who is also a messenger for the gods. In the tales, he often puts his own spin on the stories he carries up and down the tree. His most regular clients are the wise eagle who sits at the top of Yggdrasil, and the hungry serpent, Nidhoggr, who lies coiled among the tree’s roots. Ratatoskr relishes the chance to carry an insult between these two mighty beasts, and by doing so, he is continually stirring the animosity between them. Tales describe Ratatoskr as a red squirrel. Ancient artists depicted him with extremely long ears, but this could be an artifact of the art style of the time, rather than a meaningful statement about Ratotskr’s physique. In some stories, he wants to destroy the tree of life, so he antagonizes the eagle and the dragon against each other. Because the tree is all that stands between the two foes, they attack the tree to get at each other. Some scholars believe that Ratatoskr may symbolize Rati, a magical drill that the god Odin used on a quest to obtain magical mead, made from the blood of the wisest man who ever lived, out of a fortress inside a mountain. 7. Garm The monstrous hound Garm guards the entrance to Helheim, the Norse realm of the, much like Cerberus in Greek mythology. It has four eyes and a chest drenched with blood, and lives in Gnipa-cave. Anyone who had given bread to the poor could appease him with Hel cake. On the day of Ragnarok, Garm will join the giants in their fight against the gods. The god of war Tyr will it in this cataclysmic battle but will from the wounds inflicted by the hound. Garm is often equated with the wolf Fenrir. 6. Fafnir According to the legends, a dwarf named Fafnir slew his father, Hreithmar, to obtain a vast amount of gold. The gold had been a gift from Odin, who put a curse on it. Full of greed, Fafnir changed into a dragon to guard his treasure and was later slain by the young hero Sigurd. Sigurd was spurred on by another brother of Fafnir, the blacksmith Regin. Once Sigurd, under the advice of Odin, had Fafnir, Regin asked him to cook the dragon’s heart for him. Sigurd touched the heart as it was cooking to test if it was done and burned his thumb. He put his thumb into his mouth and was then able to understand the language of birds. In this tale, knowledge is given to one who eats the heart of a dragon. The birds told Sigurd that it was Regin’s intention to him, so instead Sigurd Regin and left with Fafnir’s treasure. Gorilla and Kittens You might be familiar with Koko the Gorilla because of her famous friendship with actor and comedian Robin Williams. She’s well known for her role in language research and is the subject of many children’s books. Koko is able to communicate through sign language using over 1,000 words and can understand around 2,000 spoken words. She was born in 1971 and has been working with animal psychologist Penny Patterson since she was very young. She surprised everyone when she used her language skills to ask for something surprising: a kitten! Her caretakers, thinking she wouldn’t know the difference, gave her a stuffed kitten. Gorillas are incredibly strong animals and they were worried that Koko would hurt a kitten by accident. However, she did know the difference and signed the word “sad” when they tried to give her the stuffed animal. Like, you know what I’m saying but you are ignoring me! They decided to give it a try and Patterson brought her to a kitten and carefully supervised the interactions. Koko named the kitty “All Ball”. To everyone’s surprise, she showed extreme care when playing with All Ball. She was gentle, loving, and patient. She also tried to use All Ball as a convenient scapegoat. When Koko ripped a sink from the wall, she tried to blame it on the cat! The story about a gorilla asking for a pet kitten broke the news all over the world. One day, though, All Ball escaped Koko’s enclosure and was hit by a car. Her caretakers were forced to break the news and Koko signed “bad”, “cry”, “sad”, and “frown” over and over. Gorillas can’t cry like humans and this was the only way she could express her grief. Over the years, Koko has had several pet cats and continues to raise awareness to save gorillas. 10. Cat and a Squirrel Cats who have recently given birth are known for their strong mothering instinct. That can turn even the most fearsome hunter into a loving parent. Shortly after giving birth to a litter, Emmy the cat found a baby squirrel in her owner’s yard, or her yard, depending on how you want to look at it. Squirrels are usually prey to cats and don’t stand much of a chance. However, perhaps due to a mix of hormones and the baby squirrel’s noises of distress, Emmy decided to adopt the squirrel rather than eat it. Maybe she was just a very nice cat! Emmy’s owner could no longer take care of her and her children. They were passed on to new owners and the strange addition was named “Rocky”. Rocky became so integrated into his new family that he even learned how to purr just like a cat. 9. The Fox and the Hound The Disney version of The Fox and the Hound is one of the saddest movies I’ve ever seen, I couldn’t even watch it as a kid because just thinking about it made me start crying. The good news is that there is a real life version of this story that has a much better ending! A Norwegian photographer named Torgeir Berge owns a German Shepherd named Tinni. One day, the pair were walking through the woods near Berge’s home when they found an orphaned baby fox. Berge allowed Tinny to play with the fox, who Berge named Sniffer. The pair spent the entire day together. When it came time to go, Berge didn’t try to take the fox with him but left him to fend for itself. The fox was old enough to survive on its own and Berge didn’t know hot to take care of a wild fox. Which just as a side not, you shouldn’t take wild animals home with you either... The friendship born on that day remained and when Berge would take Tinni out for walks, Sniffer the fox would come and they would spend hours playing together. Berge took beautiful photos of the friendship in order to raise awareness and denounce the killing of foxes for their fur. 8. Pig and a Lamb Rescued from a factory farm, Edgar Allen Pig lived on a farm sanctuary in Australia. In fact, he’s the namesake of the sanctuary, which is called Edgar’s Mission. The owner of Edgar’s Mission taught Edgar how to walk on a leash so that he could better serve as an ambassador and draw attention to the inhumane treatment of farm animals. Not many people had seen a pig walking on a leash in Australia! It wasn’t long after his arrival that Edgar showed a talent one wouldn’t assign to a pig: he made an excellent foster father. Rottweiler With Vitiligo Usually if you see a rottweiler you’re worried it’s going to bite your head off. Unless you are familiar with them or see these markings. Here’s something you don’t see everyday… a rottweiler that makes you go “awww”! If you’ve never seen a dog with vitiligo before that’s not surprising. The condition only affects 1 out of a hundred puppies. Vitiligo means there’s a lack of pigment being produced in the animal’s skin. The weird thing is we don’t really know why it happens and can only make an educated guess. Scientists believe the root of the problem lies in the immune system. It can caused by a viral infection or an autoimmune disorders. In dogs vitiligo can be found on Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dachshunds and Old English Sheepdogs. There’s no treatment but don’t worry about this little fella, or should we say big fella! He doesn’t suffer any pain from vitiligo but he can get itchy from it. If you think that sounds uncomfortable than be aware that the condition affects humans too! 9. Venus the Cat Check out Venus. A lot of cats have a major social media presence but this one has a bigger profile than most. She has 1.4 million followers!! And for good reason, she’s two different colors and has very striking markings! The color of her fur is split down the middle like something out of an artist’s imagination, Two-Faced from Batman anyone? Her eyes are also two different colors… one is blue, the other orange! Venus has what’s called “mosaicism” which means her chromosomes aren’t expressing her genes in the regular way. It’s almost like her DNA is trying to show us two cats at the same time! Some think she’s a chimera cat but this has been debunked by scientists. A chimera is an animal made up of two embryos that fuse together very early on creating one organism. Another famous instagram cat is Quimera who has 71,000 followers. Scientists think that these two-faced cats are striking examples of calico cats and it just so happens their colors are divided right down the middle. 8. Strawberry Leopard Leopards are one of nature’s most effective predators. But we can’t help but think this guy’s rep has taken a bit of a dent thanks to his unusual coloring. His coloring doesn’t really help him blend into his surroundings!! The strawberry leopard was spotted… sorry about the joke… in South Africa in 2012. First reported by National Geographic, he’s already good looking enough as it is, but what’s fascinated experts is the pink tinge or hue to his fur. It’s believed he has something called erythrism. Erythrism is what happens when the pigmentation in the skin changes for whatever reason. He either has too much red or too little dark pigment. No-one’s sure which! What is definite is that he is extremely unique. Nothing like this has been captured on camera before. There are drawbacks of course to being the prettiest kitty on the reserve. The strawberry leopard can still camouflage himself but his distinctive markings make him a prime target for human hunters. Let’s hope this amazing creature doesn’t wind up as a trophy over someone’s fireplace! You know how people are... The oxygen levels are nearly negligent, but due to chemosynthesis, At least forty-eight species of wildlife has been stored away for possible millions of years. Many of these animals are unique to this specific cave. The cave is unsafe for humans and most animals. It is completely Void of light and contains toxic gasses that the specialized animals within the cave require to live. Less than 100 people have been allowed in the cave, and to get to the entrance you have to be Lowered 65ft into the ground through a narrow passage. Microbiologist, Rich Boden was one of the first to enter the cave and one of the few to see the lake below, “The pool of warm, sulphidic water stinks of rotting eggs or burnt rubber when you disturb it as hydrogen sulphide is given off.” The animals that live in Movile Cave are Generally born without eyes or skin pigment, due to the fact that they live in the darkness and don’t need sight or camouflage. As for humans, if you go in without a special mask it wouldn’t be long before the lack of oxygen and toxic gasses took their toll. It would Begin with labored breathing and a headache, followed by kidney damage…and the rest, well; no one has ever gotten that far. #9 Lake Vostok Out of over 400 lakes in Antarctica only one can be the largest, and the title goes to Lake Vostok. The lake is at the southern Pole of Cold, beneath Russia's Vostok Station. It resides Far beneath the surface of the central East Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is 11,000ft above sea level. This freshwater lake’s surface is about 13,000ft under the surface of the ice, meaning it would be less than 2000ft below sea level. The lake has Supposedly been untouched for at least 400,000 years, and it wasn’t until 2012 that scientists completed the longest ever ice core that reached 12,400ft and finally pierced through to the surface of the lake. However, as soon as this happened, Water from the lake gushed up the borehole used to extract the water, and mixed with Freon and kerosene that was used to keep the hole from freezing. In 2015, teams tried again and were successful in retrieving a pure sample. Still, Humans have only touched the surface of this lost world and it is believed that new, unseen creatures could dwell in Lake Vostok. The question is…will humans ever reach them? #8 Son Doong Cave Son Doong Cave, or known in Vietnam as Hang Sơn Đoòng is a Solutional cave in Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, Vietnam. Son Doong Cave is often called the largest cave in the world. It was discovered by a local man named Hồ Khanh in 1991. People from the area knew about the cave, but the steep descent at the entrance as well as the loud sound of the wind and water rushing through the cave, prevented locals from entering. Of course, everyone thought it was spooky! It wasn’t until 2009 that the cave was shared with the world when British Cave Research Association conducted a survey nearby. Unfortunately, their progress was stopped when they ran into a 200 ft calcite wall known as the Great Wall of Vietnam. In 2013, Some of the largest cave pearls known to man were discovered, some reaching the size of a baseball! Later on, in 2013, the first tourist group explored the cave. The tickets to join this exploration cost a whopping $3,000. Permits are required to access the cave and are given out on a limited basis. Only about 800 are available in 2017 and only through August. During the Fall and Winter months, the water levels are so high that the cave is inaccessible. #7 Sima Humboldt & Sima Martel Cerro Sarisariñama is a Tepui or flattop mountain range in Jaua-Sarisariñama National Park. Located in Venezuela. The name of the mountain is derived from the tale of Ye'kuana Indians who live near the mountain. They tell a Tale about an evil spirit living in caves up in the mountain and devouring human flesh with a sound "Sari... sari...” (Some sort of windy sound effect?) On this mountain there are two mysterious sinkholes known as Sima Humboldt & Sima Martel. The larger of the two is Sima Humboldt is over 1000ft deep and over 1000ft wide. The bottom of each hole has its very own individual ecosystem. It was first descended in 1974 and as of today, is exclusive for scientific researchers.

SURPRISING Confessions Made By Disney Employees!
Check out these surprising confessions made by disney employees! These disneyland and disney world workers shared their top 10 secrets of what's really going on in these theme parks from mickey mouse! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "Most DISTURBING Secrets About Disney!" video here: https://youtu.be/hQ0FIFYz7P0 Watch our "Most EXPENSIVE Dogs In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/QjoFQKtTYuA Watch our "Pets That RETURNED Home After Being LOST!" video here: https://youtu.be/JZMkZc-lYGE 10. “Have a Magical Day” Employees at the Disney Parks have to meet and greet countless people every day, but while they have to stay on their best behavior when interacting with guests, not every visitor returns the courtesy. Quite often kids will kick the characters, probably more than you think! Or adults will be incredibly rude. Of course there’s no way for the staff to put you in your place if they want to keep their job, because it is the most magical place on Earth remember, except by using what seems like a friendly phrase that you all know! “Have a Magical Day!” is, in fact, their way of telling you where to go. Yes, that’s right, if a Disney Princess, Pirate or even Mickey Mouse says “Have a Magical Day”- they are, in fact, telling you to “Go F Yourself”. Well, that’s according to some staff who used to work at the resorts at least. They are told to make every guest feel as special as possible, and this phrase is usually the one they resort to when they’re dealing with a particular difficult guest and so they say it in a sarcastic way. It’s all about the tone of voice! Don’t panic if it’s said to you and you’ve been polite though, it could just be that they’ve been having a bad day. 9. The Music Keeps Playing That’s right! The music keeps on playing, even when there aren’t any guests. Anyone who’s visited a Disney resort will know how catchy the music can be- sometimes it takes days for you to clear your head of it all, you know the one! Especially from rides like “It’s a Small World”! Well, take a moment to think about the poor ride operators who sit there listening to the music on continuous loop all day long- and it’s not just while the rides are in operation. The CIA uses music on a repeated loop to torture and break prisoners, and they have said it is very effective! To learn more be sure to check out my Facts About the CIA video!! One of the songs they use? It’s a small world. According to some former employees, the music continues well past the time the last guest has ridden, as they need to continually check and test the experience to ensure it’s living up to the entertainment and safety standards that you’d expect. Even the janitors sweep the place with the full music playing- something that would be taxing even for the most committed of Disney fans! 8. Fired for Taking a Selfie One of the rules of working at Disney is that you must stay in character at all times. This means answering every question in the way that your character would, knowing everything about the movies that they were in, and never shattering the illusion. If you play Mulan and some tourists come up to you and try to speak Chinese- you’d better have a good reason why you aren’t able to speak it back to them. It’s also not a great job for celebrity spotting, because if you see one you can’t go up and talk to them unless they approach you, and you absolutely mustn’t ruin any of the behind the scenes magic. This means taking photos of yourself while getting ready, or backstage in the resort, is completely banned- there have been numerous accounts of staff members who have done this and lost their jobs soon after. If you want a picture of yourself dressed up as Cinderella, you’d be much safer getting a friend to visit the park and getting a snap for you. And it better be in character and not in between! You have to keep the magic real!! 7. Security is EVERYWHERE Just as you’d find with any amusement park, there are prominently placed security staff all around Disney, but what you might not realize is that those visible guards are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to park security. Which is a good thing in this day in age. Talk about shattering the illusion. There must never be any bad event at Disney ever!! It’s a legal document that dates back all the way to 900 AD and is the earliest known written document in the Philippines. During the 10th century, scholars generally believed the Philippines were isolated from most of Southeast Asia. 7. 700,000-Year-Old Tools It’s pretty incredible to think that no matter how far we come in the fields of science and technology the world is still full of secrets. It turns out, the Philippines has many. Recently, some stone tools were found that predate the arrival of modern humans to the islands by around 600,000 years. 6. Rat-Eating Pitcher Plant What could be cooler than a carnivorous jungle plant? Well, not a whole lot and take into account the fact this innocent plant actually is big bowl of and you really have a winner on your hands! 5. The Blanket of Banton It’s strange to think that the folk-style blankets we see adorning living rooms all across the country actually came from a much more ritualistic tradition. The essential elements of the blankets stem from the idea of the “blanket”. So the next time you see an ethnic blanket at that cool girl’s apartment try not to ruin it for her if she doesn’t know the story. 4. Adidas One of the strangest things about the Philippines may be the street food, so if you can stomach the idea of bizarre delicacies, this might be right up your alley. The first time I heard “Adidas” I thought it was referring to the sports shoe company, you know...but it turns out it’s something totally different. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard that if you ask for adidas, you are going to get some nice, grilled chicken feet! 3. Stripe-Faced Flying Fox While the name might be deceiving, it’s actually a bat, not a fox. This unusual species of bat was discovered not long after scientists deemed it to no longer exist. The stripe-faced flying fox looks like a cute character out of a cartoon and I’m sure the researchers were happy in this case to be proven wrong and discover the species was still around. 2. Balut Here’s another street food item that might shock you! Chicken on a stick is one thing, but Balut is quite another. So what is Balut? For starters it’s a duck egg. Which doesn’t sound so bad, but add the fact that the egg is fertilized and allowed to develop from 16 to 20 days before it’s cooked and things get...interesting. 1. Oton Mask Don’t be fooled by appearances. While this may look like some kind of torture device, or a golden insect of some sort (depending on how you look at it). It was actually used for something completely different. Early people used to use gold ornaments to cover the face of the deceased. This British woman however was actually born in Colombia, and it is there that she claims to have had one of the most formative experiences of her life. When she was around 5 years old, she says she was kidnapped from her village then soon released in the middle of nowhere, though she was far too young to understand why or what exactly had happened. Even though she was free, her captors left her in the rainforest alone and confused. Marina would then follow a band of capuchin monkeys around the forest, imitating their behaviours to survive the harsh jungle. Living on a simple diet of roots and berries, Marina spent nights sleeping in the trees. Though the monkeys didn't fully accept her at first, Marina was clever enough to use the monkeys for protection and to stay fed by collecting scraps. As time went by, the monkeys accepted her and allowed her to sleep in the trees with them. Eventually, she says she was found by hunters who found her walking on all fours and unable to speak. Unfortunately for her, her life was just about to get worse. Instead of helping her, the men who found her sold her to a brothel in the nearby city for some quick cash. She escaped and lived as a street urchin and then was even enslaved to a family who belonged to the Colombian mafia, Marina would later write in her autobiography that it was a neighbor who took pity on her. The neighbor, Maruja, sent her to live with one of her children far away in Bogota. Marina eventually moved to Britain, where she still lives to this day. Even though it is an amazing story of survival, many have questioned her claims because of a lack of evidence, although it is hard to say what evidence there would be. Monkeys and brothels don’t keep very good records. Her favorite thing in the world is to groom her family. 7: John Ssebunya, Uganda Another turned survival story, John Ssebunya of Uganda’s adoptive family playfully calls him “the boy raised by monkeys”. When he was very young, John´s father murdered his mother and the young boy ran away, fearing he would be next. Fleeing into the jungle, the young boy met a group of vervet monkeys that offered him roots and nuts. Though they were at first afraid, the monkeys soon befriended John, and he learned to live as they did. They cared from him and kept him fed. They traveled together and John, the real life Tarzan, even slept in the trees just like the monkeys did. For up to a year, the child lived in the wilderness guided by his friendly primates. The area was in the midst of a and very few humans came to that part of the jungle. A local stumbled across him when searching for firewood. She had initially thought he was a monkey himself until his lack of a tail made her do a double take and so she brought him to her village for help. There John was teased and called monkey boy, but also had many tapeworms removed and other illnesses treated that the jungle had left him with. Many suspect he couldn't have survived in the jungle much longer. He had to get used to warm food again, as it would upset his stomach. His hunched appearance, long hair and sharp nails would eventually be changed to fit in with his new home in the village. He was adopted by a couple who are teachers and they are the first to make monkey jokes. Despite all he has experienced, John has found a place within society. However, he still shows many signs of his time with primates, such as avoiding eye contact or a different manner of walking because of his early influences. He has wonderful stories of the love the animals showed for him. 6. Victor of Aveyron In the late 18th century, a 12-year-old boy was discovered living in the forest in France. Perhaps the most famous case of “the noble savage”, or children raised by animals, the boy was discovered in the late 1790’s and was allegedly raised by wolves. These children were romanticized in folklore and stories such as The Jungle Book and Tarzan, but the reality of these feral children is much more bleak. Victor was taken in by many people but he would repeatedly escape and run back to the woods. Most DISTURBING Urban Legends Of All Time!
Here are the top scariest and creepiest urban legends of all time! Originated in Japan and Russia, these most disturbing stories ever may or may not be true. From Kuchisake, the slit mouthed woman, to the Black Volga, the phantom car and La Llorona, the weeping woman, check it out in this video! Kuchisake-Onna, the Slit-Mouthed Woman is one of the oldest urban legends from Japan. Kuchisake was either the wife or concubine of a samurai warrior and was extremely vain. When he discovered that she had been having an affair, he punished her by slitting her mouth from ear to ear and asks, "Who will think you are beautiful now?" The legend was told to warn women to be faithful but it gets creepy when the ghost of Kuchisake-Onna began approaching strangers and chasing children in the 1970s. The story is that Kuchisake-Onna wears a beautiful scarf or mask covering her face and asks them, “Am I pretty?” This is the beginning of a lose-lose conversation. If you say no, she is going to kill you with a pair of scissors. If you say yes, she will remove her mask, showing you her horrific scars and ask, “How about now?” If you say no, she'll cut you in half. If you say yes, she will still kill you and slit your mouth, making you look like her, hopefully after you're dead. Here's a diagram in case you got lost... There are also other variations of what she might do to you, like for example she might follow you home and murder you in your sleep. In the 1970's there was a woman who was wearing a mask and chasing some children. She was hit by a car and killed and her mouth was slit from ear to ear. There have also been recent sightings of Kuchisake-Onna and the legend lives on that she follows people who are travelling alone at night. Some clever people have managed to escape and given us their secrets so in case this happens to you, you'll know what to do. If Kuchisake asks you, Am I Pretty?, try to confuse her by giving her ambiguous answers like, you are average, I'd give you about a 6, or So-so. Something like that. Or, you could try to turn the conversation around like, Do you think I'm pretty? While she’s thinking, you will have enough time to escape. You can also tell her you have a prior engagement, and she will pardon her manners and excuse herself. Other possible victims have just thrown candy or something at her while they run away... The legend has even spread to South Korea, where she appears with a blood red face mask. The Black Volga Russia's Phantom Death car This type of car was the most lavish and expensive available at the time and was typically driven by the Communist Party and Soviet political officials. The legend of the black Volga automobile comes from the Soviet Union and spread throughout Eastern Europe. The Black Volga was a very high end limousine with white curtains and rims that was spotted frequently in the streets in the 1960s. Reports were that women and children would disappear whenever this car came around. According to the legend, high-ranking Soviet officials drove the black Volga kidnapping young, pretty girls to be sex slaves of the highest ranking Soviet comrades. Another version is that children were kidnapped to harvest their organs or sell their blood to rich people suffering from leukemia around the world. Not one eye witness could see the driver. Some theorize it was nuns or priests, Satanists, vampires, and body venders drove the vehicle. If anyone was brave enough to challenge the Volga they would be dead within 24 hours. Many parents would make sure to walk their children home from school and told them to watch out for the Volga in case they were snatched and never seen again. Buried Alive The wife of an elderly man passes away after a long illness, leaving her husband devastated. He is stricken with grief and keeps denying that she is dead. He insists that she is still alive but since everyone thinks he is just in denial they sedate him and proceed with the funeral. They bury his wife in the family plot at the old man’s estate. That night, he keeps having nightmares of his wife trying to scratch her way out of the coffin and trying to escape. After a week of these nightmares, the the family agrees to exhume the body. To everyone’s horror, when they open the coffin, they find the old lady’s hands all bloody with bent and broken nails and scratches on the inside of the lid. La Llorona The Weeping Woman A great way to scare little ones into behaving is to tell them the myth of “La Llorona”, The Weeping Woman. The legend goes that there was a beautiful woman named Maria.

The approximate Location of Troy was mentioned in several works by ancient Greek and Latin authors but was lost for hundreds of years until in the 1800's when scholars Charles Maclaren and Frank Calvert were able to persuade German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann to Excavate a mysterious mound know as Hisarlik. Everyone else had ignored Maclaren and Calvert claiming that the legend of Troy was just a story based on myth, not history. Of course, Schliemann took full credit for the discovery once he began uncovering the ancient city. Life lessons guys, always trust your instinct and don't let other people take credit for your hard work. The actual site where the city of Troy was located has About 9 different layers of settlements, towns and cities that could have been the Troy led by King Priam whose son Paris, ran away with Helen, wife of Menelaus, King of Sparta. One of the ironies of volcanoes is that They tend to lure people in because they produce very fertile soil. In the towns below it, most people would not have known that Vesuvius was a volcano or that a Bronze Age settlement in the area had already been annihilated almost 2,000 years before. Vesuvius is actually Inside the exploded skeleton of an older volcano. If you look at an aerial photograph, you can see the remaining ridge of a much larger volcano on the north side. Around 2,000 people were killed in Pompeii from a cloud of scorching gases and thousands of tons of rock and ash that rained down over the city. The powdery ash that buried everyone was so fine that You can even see people's eyelids preserved like a plaster cast. The Emperor Titus declared Pompeii an emergency zone and offered financial assistance for cleanup and recovery. But the buried towns were beyond salvaging. Eventually, Pompeii and Herculaneum were Taken off local maps and forgotten for hundreds of years. Within a few centuries, settlers had repopulated the empty terrain, unconcerned with what lay below. The African plate, on which most of the Mediterranean Sea rests, is actually diving beneath the European plate. Under pressure underground the gases stay dissolved. When the magma rises to the surface it compresses, causing volcanoes to explode. To this day, Vesuvius Remains one of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes; some 3.5 million Italians live in its shadow, and about 2 million tourists visit the ruins each year. Mohenjo-daro and Harappa were highly advanced cities of their time, with Remarkably sophisticated civil engineering and urban planning reaching their golden age between 2,600 to 1900 BCE. Harappa had a level of Architectural planning that was unparalleled in the ancient world.

In 2010 he self-published a book: The Thrill of the Chase which contains clues and a poem directing treasure hunters to his estimated $1 to $3 million worth of historical artifacts. The chest dates back to the year 1150 and is said to contain pre-Columbian gold, Chinese jade carvings, and a 17th-century Spanish ring with emeralds, rubies, and diamonds. His Goal is to leave a legacy and get people to enjoy the outdoors while searching for the treasure. Many argue that the treasure is not, in fact, real, suggesting that it is simply a way to push sales of his memoir. However the rights belong to the Collected Works Bookstore in Santa Fe and half of the profits go to a charity. Hundreds of people have contacted Fenn begging for more clues but his lips are sealed! It sounds like if you’ve got a free summer, Forrest Fenn’s treasure might well be worth the hunt! Be sure to read his poem with clues to the treasure and let us know if you find anything! This turned out to be a huge mistake and all were sunk near Vero Beach, Florida just a week into the voyage. Over 1,000 sailors didn't make it and it took the Spanish Almost 4 years to recover half the treasure that was initially lost.

They're a well-documented part of archaeology, and some of the biggest discoveries in history have been finding mummies and their crypts and tombs and discovering who they were and what they did. 10. Shackled Bodies History is written by the victors, and because of that, the "dirty little secrets" of societies and their rulers have to be dug up and found. One such secret of the ancient Greeks was found in 2016 in Athens. They were trying to dig up ground to make some new buildings. 9. Pit Speaking of unanswered questions, this pit raises plenty more of them. In France, another construction project led to the discovery of something heinous and foul. A literal pit that was over six feet deep and five feet wide. But it’s not called the pit for nothing. Inside the pit were numerous bodies. 8. Vampire Burials Fear is a powerful thing. It can lead people to do things they would never do of their own rational mind. And it can cause them to fear things that are truly irrational. The fear of vampires were a real thing for a long time in the ancient world, and the thought that the could rise again and come for blood made many take "precautions" in order to protect themselves. 7. The Moa Under The Mountain Exploration is key in finding archaeological artifacts, but sometimes even the most hardened of archaeologists can't predict everything they would find. And this particular one is one for the history books. 6. Altamura Man While certain finds can be scary, they can also be fascinating in the historical sense, and one such grand case is the Altamura Man. A cave scientist (yeah, that's a thing, I looked it up) was in Altamura, Italy doing some work, and while examining a particular structure, he turned to find a skeleton looking at him through the rock. 5. Skulls No, that’s right, "Not souls", "skulls". In Sweden, in 2009, some archaeologists were excavating a dried up lake bed. Near the bottom of the lake they found a sealed structure, that's already pretty terrifying, but trust me, it gets worse. Within that stone structure were a set of 11 skulls. 4. The Sewer Of Babies The ancient world did a lot of great and wondrous things. But, it also did a lot of terrible things, including facilitating the of many young babies. Yet, one of the most disturbing finds ever might just be a sewer full of them. 3. Family Betrayal Sometimes the truly terrifying things we find aren't the remains of people, but the stories they leave behind. Yan Shiwei was a prominent member of Chinese society during his time and he loyally served the first female Emperor in Chinese history. 2. Neanderthals The act of a humanoid eating another humanoid. It was once widely felt to be a tribal act, rooted in specific groups of people. Yet, Archaeology has taught us differently. This act goes all the way back to the Neanderthals. 1. Whistles If you recognized this sound earlier, then you know it comes from an Aztec Whistle!! This was discovered when digging up an Aztec grave, where the man, was holding onto the Whistle! Dinosaur Death Match! You’ve got to love dinosaur bones, they teach about the animal’s behaviour and appearance, and what they ate. There have been a lot of great dinosaur skeleton finds over the years, helping us to discover new species and try to figure out what the world was like long before we came around. But this find has to be seen to be believed. 7. Atacama Alien Skeleton In 2003, a very small skeleton was found with a very long head that ended in a point and missing ribs. Rumors spread and conspiracy theorists began shouting “Alien” from the rooftops. The remains were sold to a private collector in Spain and ended up in a documentary in 2013 as potential evidence for alien life. 6. Predator Becomes Prey In the words of a Jedi Master, "there's always a bigger fish". But in this unique skeleton find, it was actually a somewhat small fish that caused the deaths of three as it tried to attack something much bigger than itself. 5. Roopkund Skeletons Ok, so the only thing more unsettling than finding one skeleton in an odd place is finding multiple skeletons in an odd place. Hundreds in fact! In 1942, the British heard a rumor that there were hundreds of Japanese soldiers who had died in Lake Roopkund in the Himalayas. 4. Skeleton Tree During a storm in Ireland, a large birch tree was knocked over. It was quite a surprise when a human skeleton was found embedded in the mass of roots. Now, that's weird enough. Researchers were called in and it turns out that under the 215 year-old tree was the skeleton of a young man between 17-20 years old. The bones were dated back to the medieval period between 1030 and 1200 AD. 3. Conehead Skeletons There is an ancient fortified settlement in Russia that dates back to around 2-3,000 BC. Also known as the “Russian Stonehenge”, it is believed to be older than Stonehenge itself! Archaeologists have tried to find out who lived there, and more recently, a skull with an elongated cone shape was found at this site. 2. A Centaur Ok, this one wasn't really a "find", but it's still worth talking about. At the Tucson International Wildlife Museum, you'll actually find a "skeleton" of a centaur. Yes, as in the creature from Greek Mythology. No, it's not an actual centaur, but it's there! 1. Vampire Skeleton One of the other beautiful things about science is that it can debunk the existence of certain mythological creatures definitively. While it's nice to believe in centaurs, human history is ripe with claims of dangerous mythological creatures living among us. Like...say...vampires? Heart Attack Gun In 1975, after certain activities were revealed by the Watergate affair, the Church Committee uncovered that the CIA had violated its charter to only gather intelligence. Who knew that they are specifically forbidden from directly eliminating anyone in the performance of espionage and intelligence-gathering. Because I didn't. The Church Committee is the common term that Refers to the US Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities. They uncovered Assassinations against leaders and revolutionaries all over the world and even declassified a "Heart Attack Gun". The Agency had made the gun to eliminate people without being detected. It fires bullets made of ice brushed with shellfish toxin. This Toxin will induce a heart attack and the bullet will melt, making it seem like the person died of natural causes. We still don't know who exactly may have been eliminated with this gun. The hearings, although recorded in full in congressional record, the mainstream media and official policies, is Still largely not taught in American schools. Probably because they don't want to scare the children... 7. Asbestos Asbestos us a Natural mineral compound used as padding, insulation, and fire retardation. It was well know by the 1900s that asbestos was extremely dangerous to be around and caused all kinds of respiratory diseases, including cancer. Between 1930 and 1960, Manufacturers did all they could to cover up the truth and destroy the reputations of doctors and medical authorities who said otherwise. Johns-Manville Corp. was labeled "The greatest corporate mass-eliminator in history". American workers had in fact sued the Johns Manville company as far back as 1932, but it was not until 1962 that epidemiologists finally established beyond any doubt what company bosses had known for a long time – Asbestos causes cancer. Victims testified in numerous cases that their lives had been shattered by working for the world's biggest asbestos product producer without ever being told of the dangers they faced. Many of the companies filed for bankruptcy so they could escape responsibility. Today, asbestos is still legally produced and used in the United States 6. The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident For years, the United States had been Providing aid to South Vietnam and France to fight the Communist rebels in the North. While not involved in the conflict outright, the US had been sending over military advisors and ships. By 1964 South Vietnam was under the control of rebel groups and newly elected president Lyndon B. Johnson was under a great deal of pressure to intervene, but he just didn’t have the political ammunition to make a move. This all changed when American Destroyer Maddox claimed it was attacked off the coast of Vietnam while minding its own business. A couple of days later, Johnson claimed there was another attack against US Destroyers by hostile vessels and that it was now necessary to "Take all necessary measures in support of freedom and in defense of peace". Over the next couple of days after the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, the Johnson administration asserted to Congress that the destroyers had been on routine patrol in international waters. As a result of these attacks, Congress passed the ‘Gulf of Tonkin Resolution’, which allowed the President to assist any Southeast Asian country against the onslaught of communist ideas, and formed the legal basis for commencing full military operations against North Vietnam. In reality, The destroyers were on an espionage mission in waters claimed by North Vietnam. And while the Johnson administration also described the two attacks as unprovoked, it never disclosed the covert U.S.-backed raids taking place. Declassified documents showed that the Maddox was the first to fire warning shots during the initial event as opposed to the Vietnamese boats as was originally claimed. The biggest lie is that the Second attack never occurred at all. Instead, it’s believed that the crewmembers of the Maddox mistook their own sonar’s pings off the rudder for North Vietnamese torpedoes. The enemy were Referred to as ‘Tonkin Ghosts’ or false radar images. President Johnson himself apparently said in 1965 that, “For all I know, our navy was shooting at whales out there” in a clear case of information manipulation to justify a political agenda.

Most TERRIFYING Sea Monsters Ever!
Check out the most terrifying sea monsters ever! These deep sea creatures roamed the ocean million years ago! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "Top AMAZING Facts About The Planet Earth!" video here: https://youtu.be/2bo0p7ndMZY Watch our "Shocking and TERRIFYING Natural Disasters!" video here: https://youtu.be/4VkcxqxZGpA Watch our "Most Amazing Cities Found UNDERWATER!" video here: https://youtu.be/rUqxhYJqGhU List of most terrifying sea monsters ever: 9. Predator X Predator X is the most powerful marine reptile ever discovered. Over 15 meters long, and weighing about 4 tons, it was twice as big as most Jurassic predators. The giant reptile roamed the seas about 150 million years ago and was officially classified as a new species. Now known as Pliosaurus funkei, it had a massive 2m skull with a bite four times as powerful as a Tyrannosaurus rex. (Although I prefer the name Predator X). Studies of the brain cavity of Predator X has revealed that its brain was actually similar to the much smaller great white shark?. In 2006, scientists found two massive pliosaur skeletons in Norway. The giant creatures, looked slightly different from other pliosaurs discovered in England and France over the last century and a half.  The pliosaur family had short necks and four large, paddle-shaped limbs like a turtle that allowed them to move up to 5m per second. The newly discovered funkei species likely lived closer to 145 million years ago and ate plesiosaurs, related long-necked, small-headed reptiles. The new analysis shows P. funkei had longer front paddles than other pliosaurs, and different teeth. This predator is still bigger than the largest living apex predator, the whale, which tops out at about 9m (30 ft) long. 8. Plesiosaurs Plesiosaurs were a group of marine reptiles, or dinosaurs-that-weren’t-actually-dinosaurs but lived at the same time during the Jurassic Period. It had a tiny head and a long neck, paddle flippers, and a tail. Even though it was smaller than Predator X, Its mouth was full of needle-like teeth pointing inward, a perfect death trap for prey and for ripping flesh. In 1987 a plesiosaur fossil was discovered with the bones of an embryo in its abdomen, proving that the animal gave birth to live young. This creature seems to have somehow given rise to the Loch Ness Monster as the physical description is very similar. Plesiosaurs would swallow stones weighing about 5 pounds (2.2kg) to help them digest their prey. If there was one plesiosaur you needed to watch out for, it was Liopleurodon (lye plur i dun). This carnivorous beast could weigh over 3,500 pounds and reach over 30 feet in length, including jaws that are believed to be 10 feet alone, complete, of course, with a very wide jaw and several rows of razor-sharp teeth. Their bodies consisted of a unique, paddle design for limbs, which has been tested and proven on small swimming robots that the Liopleurodon would not have been super fast they were terrifyingly agile. Most likely they hunted similar to the crocodiles of today, with short and fast burst attacks. So that makes them just perfect for any underwater haunted...aquarium. 7. Giant Sea Scorpion (Jaekelopterus rhenaniae) Since there is no way I can pronounce this we'll just call this one the Giant Sea Scorpion. Larger than a human and about the size of a crocodile (2.5m), the 390-million-year-old sea scorpion was the top predator of its day. This was one of the two largest arthropods to have ever lived, reaching a length of over 8 feet of armored, clawed horror. Most of us freak out at the thought of a tarantula, so it’s easy to imagine screaming like a banshee if you ever swam by one of these. A huge fossilized spiky claw discovered in Germany in 2007 measured 18 inches (46 cm). We've known about super sized insects for years now but it wasn't until this discovery that scientists realized just how big some of these creepy crawlies could get. The next biggest fossil arthropods were massive millipedes that grew more than 2 meters (6.5 feet) long, 6. Basilosaurus The Basilosaurus’ name and appearance make it seem like an ancient reptile, but it’s actually a blood-thirsty ancestor of today’s whales. It's ironic given that its name means “King Lizard,” but that is because when it was discovered by Richard Owen in 1834, it was thought be a reptile. It wasn't until over 10 years later that he discovered it was actually a mammal and tried to rename it the Zeuglodon, meaning Yoke Tooth, but that didn’t catch on. It is the closest a whale has ever come to being a snake due to its long eel-like body averaging about 65 feet long, complete with a narrow snout and jaw full of large spiky teeth. It most likely ate other kinds of prehistoric mammals as its main food source. It's skeletal structure was surprisingly weak for its size and power.

Sea Lions Sea Lions have long been associated with friendly interactions with humans, so much so that they form a large part of Peruvian culture- having been worshipped by the people there and depicted in numerous artworks. They are highly intelligent animals, which means they can learn tricks to entertain crowds, and are quite curious so they will often swim up alongside humans and play with them in the water. They are also used by the US military to assist SCUBA diving teams look for underwater mines and, in some instances, detain divers who have accessed restricted areas until authorities can arrive. Sea lions and dolphins are used as combat marine units and sea lions especially, have excellent eyesight. Sea lions are hardy, smart, and trainable and they have the added advantage that they are amphibious and can easily hand things to their handlers. This all makes Sea Lions sound like gentle creatures, but it’s important to know that sea lions have another side to them. If they aren’t treated well or respectfully, they can become quite aggressive. This can also happen with male Sea Lions because they are very territorial during mating season. If it looks like you’re bothering one then stay away but, if not, they are one of the friendliest sea creatures you’ll ever meet. 9. Beluga Whale Beluga Whales are native to the Arctic and sub-arctic, and are uniquely adapted to the cold waters. They are white in color, don’t have a dorsal fin, and have an enlarged head, which contains an organ called a melon that is used for echolocation. Beluga’s were actually the first type of whale to be kept in captivity, with the first being shown at Barnum’s museum in New York in 1861. To this day they are still the most commonly seen animal in marine parks across North America, Europe and Asia- mainly because they are much smaller than other species of whale and easier to contain. They are also a hit with visitors because of their unusual colour and wide range of facial expressions. They are really curious about the people who visit them, and often perform in shows with trainers who they develop deep bonds with. Since 1992 it has been forbidden to capture Belugas in Canada because of concerns for the population numbers in the wild, so now most of them come from Russia. They are so popular that each one can cost as much as 100,000 dollars. Whale watching tours are a great way to see them in their natural habitat, but it’s important for the boat not to get too close to them because of the way it can interrupt their daily activities. Quite often they enjoy interacting with the boats so much that they get distracted from things like feeding, social interaction with their own species, and breeding. They get so caught up in the moment, they forget what they’re supposed to be doing!! 8. Whale Shark You might not think a shark with a five-foot-wide mouth and more than 3,000 teeth would be the friendliest of creatures, but whale sharks are the most gentle of all shark species. They pose no threat to humans at all, and are usually pretty welcoming to those who want to swim alongside them. Despite their huge mouth, their throats are only the width of a US quarter, and they only eat tiny micro-organisms. Their average speed through the water is about 3 miles per hour, so they are easy to keep up with, and in a lot of tourist areas they are used to the presence of humans in the water, and don’t really seem to be bothered. Cancun is one of the best places to swim with these giants of the ocean, where you’ll really feel small next to a 65-foot-long and 12 ton fish. There really is nothing quite like being surrounded by a few of them, and the experience draws tourists from all over the world. If you visit “Las Afueras” you’ll even have a chance to be amongst a feeding frenzy of hundreds of them, which is a spectacular feat of nature. 7. Manatees Manatees, or sea cows, are also known as gentle giants, and it’s clear to see why. They are fully aquatic and feed mainly on plant life that they sift from the water. They can grow to up to 13-feet-long, weigh about 1,300 pounds, and push their way through the water with their paddle like limbs. Urban Legends That Turned Out To Be TRUE!

Eaten By Pigs Ever heard the saying “we’ll feed you to the pigs”. Well, this isn’t just a vernacular convention, but a phrase that’s based in real fact. A while back, in 2012, a veteran who was suffering from stress disorder was looking for a way to cope with what he had seen. In the end, the man turned to raising pigs as a therapeutic exercise. The man’s family said that the pigs had really changed his life for the better. Unfortunately, the pigs would also be the cause of the man’s demise, in the end. One day, the veteran went out to feed his livestock. What happened next is still being debated today, as there was no body to do an autopsy on to discern the cause. It’s speculated that a heart attack caused the veteran to fall into the pig pen, or that some other outside influence made him faint or something. Whatever caused him to fall, in the end, over 99% of his body was consumed by the very same animals that he had come to love. Pigs are more vicious than you think! 8. Wedgie A good many of us did a lot of questionably intelligent things when we were young. TP-ing the neighbor's house on halloween, giving innocent freshmen in our High Schools a hard time, or picking on our little sibling just because we could -- the list really just goes on from there. There’s a myth that’s been floating around a good many years, though, that many might think is just a cautionary tale, dreamed up by parents, and told to their kids to prevent them from picking on anyone who couldn’t fight back. To be fair, the idea that an atomic wedgie really does sound pretty darn far-fetched. The truth is even more odd. It turns out that there is a reported case of a wedgie a man -- again, a man, not a child as the legend falsely goes. A few years ago, a 34-year old man got in an argument with his stepfather of almost 60 years of age. So what did the grown man do to retaliate against his father? Well, he gave him an atomic wedgie to rival them all. Unfortunately, both of the men were likely drunk, based upon what the police who reported the case have said, and the stepfather’s throat became ensnared by the waistband of his underwear after which the aging man was strangled by his own drawers. Quite an embarrassing way to go, but it’s true. 7. Body Under Mattress Legend goes that a couple checks into a run-down, creepy hotel. Ok, maybe not creepy, maybe just a motel 6 or something. Everything’s going fine, until they detect a peculiar smell wafting up from under the place that they’re supposed to be sleeping, their rented bed. The couple decides to investigate, sometimes it's the wife or girlfriend that checks under the bed and sometimes it's the man, but in either case what they find is always the same: a cold and rotting body. This sounds like something that would be told around a raging campfire with s'mores leaking all over the listener’s hands. However, there are a actually more than a few reported cases of bodies actually being found under motel and hotel beds. For example, Richard Kuklinski was a who poisoned a man, before him with the cord of a lamp. After this he stuffed his victim’s body into the bed frame of a motel room in New Jersey. There are other cases of this happening too -- so be careful where you check in for the night. 6. Very Real Halloween Decorations Halloween is a time of tricks, treats, and -- for some -- practical jokes. Sometimes, though, the joke can go a bit too far. There is an urban myth that a man or sometimes a teenager, performs a fake hanging trick to scare their friends. Or whoever. Then something goes wrong and they accidentally hang themselves. Since everyone thinks it’s a trick, no one saves them. In New Jersey, a teenager named Bryan Jewell just like this. In the state of North Carolina, a 15-year-old accidentally hanged himself while performing at a gallows act during a Halloween party. I get scared easily so I stay away from these kinds of things! I’ve never even heard of this kind of party... Shackled Skeletons Centuries ago in Ancient Greece, at least 80 people were executed. Archaeologists working at an ancient cemetery in the Falyron Delta necropolis, near Athens, made the discovery, which came to light in 2016. While no one is sure why this occurred, these 80 skeletons laid buried neatly with their wrists bound together with iron shackles. 9.) The Elephant’s Foot The Chernobyl disaster happened at 1:23 a.m. on April 26, 1986. After the nuclear fires were finally controlled, workers scrambled to contain the invisible dangers of the failed Chernobyl core. With the help of a remote camera, an intensely radioactive mass was found in the basement of Unit 4, more than two meters wide and weighing hundreds of tons, which they called “the Elephant’s Foot” for its wrinkled appearance. 8.) Child Mummy Mountaineers climbing near Aconcagua in Argentina in 1985 stumbled across a dark memento of the past. Nestled in a stone structure was the huddled mummy of a 7-year-old who died about 500 years ago. It is believed the little boy was the victim of child sacrifice. 7.) Cannibalism in the Canadian Arctic An ill-fated 19th-century expedition that became trapped in the Canadian Arctic ended in a particularly gruesome type of cannibalism. The British Navy on the Franklin Expedition met their gory end in 1845 when they were trying to find a sea route through the Canadian Arctic to the Orient. 6.) Man in the Attic In the days leading up to Christmas 2008, a family in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania began hearing strange sounds in their house. They didn’t think too much of it because they had two cats. However, as the days passed, they began noticing certain things disappearing, like food, money, and other items. Then, one day, they found footprints in their daughter’s closet that lead up to the attic, which is when they finally notified the police. 5.) Human Feet A number of detached human feet have been found in the water. Bet your glad you didn’t find them. These feet have been found since 2007 in British Columbia, Canada, and Washington state. The most recent discovery occurred in 2016. These mysterious feet appear on the sand like any piece of ocean debris, but its pretty freaky. It is also stated that almost all the feet found on the shores have been right feet. 4.) Smallpox Scabs In 2003, a New Mexico librarian found smallpox scabs in a library book. The 23-year-old librarian was tending the shelves at the College of Santa Fe’s Fogelson Library when she stumbled across a book on Civil War medicine written by Dr. W.D. Kelly, a physician who had done work on childhood vaccinations in the late 1800s. 3.) A House of Snakes In September 2009, a family in Idaho moved into a new spacious home they felt was perfect for their growing family. However, soon after moving in, the family starting noticing snakes everywhere. There were days where the family would count up to 40 snakes in their yard!! And to make matters a bit creepier, they began hearing slithering sounds coming from inside their walls. 2.) Unknown Man E In the late 1880’s, Dr. Fouquet and a chemist, M. Mathey, discovered what they called a tortured mummy. Mathey's report about the mummy appeared first in the Bulletin de l'Institut Egyptien in 1886, soon after the mummy was unwrapped. The mummy had been enshrouded by a sheepskin which still retained its white wool. 1.) Bones in the Basement A construction crew working on a woman’s 100-year-old Wisconsin home made a gruesome discovery. When one of the crew members began digging with a backhoe and dumped the second scoop of dirt, a human skull rolled out. It was soon determined by the Wisconsin Historical Society’s burial sites program that this area was actually the remnants of the community’s first documented cemetery, which was sold and relocated many years before. According to a report published by The New Indian Express, she had a weird feeling around her nose and eyes. 7. Spider in the Ear The Chinese media picked up a story about a girl named Li Meng. She swore up and down that she was being punished by evil spirits! No, this not a story from the Middle Ages, it happened in 2015, the XXI century. The story goes like this: While on a hiking trip, Li and her superstitious boyfriend had a great time, until they had a fight over some berries. We’ve all been there, right?? 6. Pea Plant in Lung Hey, kids! Next time your parents insist that you eat your vegetables and you don’t feel like doing it, just say these two words: “Ron Sveden”. No, it’s not a magic spell. It’s the name of the man who returned home from the hospital with the weirdest vegetable-related diagnostic: a pea plant that was growing in his lung. 5. Green Tooth There is not much you can do when a pea plant begins growing in your lung, but a 36-year-old Taiwanese man had a plant start growing out of his almost-dead tooth. Apparently taking care of his teeth wasn’t his favorite hobby, but after experiencing a tremendous toothache, the man decided it was time to pay a visit to the dentist. 4. Fish in Penis Have you ever hated someone so much that you wished all kinds of bad things would happen to them? The boy, according to The Daily Telegraph, was simply cleaning the fish tank in his home. 3. Squid Baby I’m not sure where to even start with this one. Disgusting? Interesting? Funny? Chinese Gold Bar Cipher In 1933, General Wang in Shanghai, China, allegedly received seven gold bars. These gold bars appear to represent metal certificates related to a bank deposit with a U.S. Bank. The gold bars themselves have pictures, Chinese writing, some form of script writing, and cryptograms in Latin letters. Not surprisingly, experts debate concerning the validity of the claim for the deposit. It may help to resolve the dispute if someone can decipher the cryptograms on the bars. Someone translated the Chinese writing, which discusses a transaction in excess of $300,000,000. It also refers to these gold bars, which weigh a total of 1.8 kilograms. The rest remains a mystery. 9. D’agapeyeff Cipher The D’Agapeyeff cipher is an as-yet unbroken cipher that appears in the first edition of Codes and Ciphers, an elementary book on cryptography published by the Russian-born English cartographer Alexander D’Agapeyeff in 1939. Offered as a “challenge cipher” at the end of the book, it was not included in later editions. D’Agapeyeff supposedly admitted later to having forgotten how he had encrypted it. Some argue that the failure of all attempts at decryption is due to D’Agapeyeff incorrectly encrypting the original text. However, it has also been argued that the cipher may still be successfully attacked using computational methods such as genetic algorithms. Whatever those are. 8. The Beale Ciphers If this next one isn’t a hoax then the person who solves it could become very, very rich. This question of authenticity has bothered cryptoanalysts ever since these ciphers first appeared in an 1885 pamphlet called The Beale Papers, which recounts a fantastic story of buried treasure. According to the pamphlet, a man named Thomas Jefferson Beale, a man no one has proven even existed, discovered gold during an 1816 expedition into the American West. The treasure, as the story goes, was then transported to Bedford County, Virginia, and buried. The gold's secret location was allegedly provided by three cryptograms, of which one was already cracked. Unfortunately, the cracked code only detailed the type of treasure there and not a specific location. To find out anything more specific would involve cracking the two other ciphers. The problem is that figuring it out requires comparing them to unknown historical texts. The decrypted cipher, for example, used the Declaration of Independence. The first number, 115, corresponds with the first letter of the 115th word in the Declaration: "instituted." That means 115 stands for "I." So what are the translation texts for the other two ciphers? No one knows, and they may very well not exist at all. There are also questions over whether the other ciphers may just be unintelligible, as if the whole thing was made up by the pamphlet's author decades after the gold was supposed to have been discovered. 7. Dorabella In 1897, a 40-year-old composer named Edward Elgar sent an encrypted letter to 23-year-old Dora Penny, the stepdaughter of one of his friends. Why he sent it is part of the mystery and can only be answered if anyone ever cracks the code. To figure it out would involve deciphering 87 characters all made of strings of semi-circles oriented in different directions. Attempts at translating the cipher yielded a message just short of gibberish. Experts say that shorter ciphers are always harder to solve. Another theory has it that the code is an example of a distinct private language shared only between Penny and Elgar. If that's the case, then solving it may be simply impossible, since no one but them would understand the references. In 2016, a police officer in Cleveland believes he’s cracked at least part of the code, revealing a line of melody. Inspector Mark Pitt read 100 books on the Dorabella Cipher; he hopes to write one on his discoveries. Whether or not that’s really the meaning, though, remains to be seen. Even if it’s what you’re there to see, there’s a certain instinctive respect towards the ocean’s top predators. 5. Rambo the Alligator When you think about the ideal pets to have around the house, ones with rows of sharp teeth probably wouldn’t be on the top of your list. The Port Jackson Shark Rick Anderson is an Australian diver who regularly swims in the waters off the southern coast. The City Of Z Sometimes, a legend grows not just because of people spreading it around, but because of those who have been lost trying to prove it!! Like Colonel Percy Fawcett, and the legend of the City Of Z. While the Conquistadors were the first to truly try and search for ancient lost cities in the jungles of South America, one of the more recent explorations for a lost city occurred in 1925. 4. Aztlan If history has taught us anything, it's that where you start is just as important as where you end up. Which makes the Aztec people one of the biggest mysteries history has to offer. During their prime, the Aztec Empire was one of the most powerful empires that the world has ever seen. But, history is baffled in one singular aspect...they don't know where the Aztecs came from. History proves that they were from Mexico, where they dominated for a long time, but originally they migrated there. 3. The Hanging Gardens Of Babylon The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. However, here's the twist, it hasn’t ever actually been found. So if it's never been truly found, why is it such a noted piece of history? Well, this all started with a document written by Berossus of Babylon. Who noted that in the time of 600 B.C., King Nebuchadnezzar II had the Hanging Gardens built in honor of his wife, Amytis. 2. El Dorado The nickname for this legendary city was, "The City Of Gold". This city has been lost in history for centuries, and there have been many, many searches for this place. But how did the legend begin? Well, it all started in the 16th century, when explorers from Europe heard about the "New World" and decided to try and find more of it, and take it for themselves... 1. Atlantis Hands down, the greatest, and longest-reigning legend of a city that is rumored to be out there, yet still has not been found...is Atlantis. It is interesting to note that Atlantis has become a key part of our world’s culture. We talk about Atlantis even though we can't actually confirm that it was a real place. However, many people think it was, and are searching the oceans, and even dried up deserts to this day. Mosquitoes If there’s one species that annoys the heck out of everyone it’s the mosquito, right? They not only give us irritating bites and buzz in your ear, but they can also transmit diseases like malaria, dengue, West Nile virus, and much more. In fact mosquitoes are responsible for killing almost 1 million people a year…this is no joke. 9. Passenger Pigeon The passenger pigeon has been extinct since 1914 but the passenger pigeon made a big impact on history. They used to be found in the billions in North America and were noted for their red chests and tails which were shaped like wedges. Everything was going great until one thing happened… the invention of the telegraph in the mid 1800s. 8. Western Black Rhinoceros This subspecies of the black rhino was officially declared extinct in 2011. The Western black rhinoceros used to be a stunning feature of African wildlife. Sadly like many of its kind it was killed by poachers for its horn, which some believed had medicinal properties. But others just like having the horn on display for status purposes. You know, something to talk about with your friends. 7. The Dodo Bird Everyone’s heard of the dodo right? It even made an appearance in ‘Alice In Wonderland’…? Well in case you haven’t, it was a goofy-looking thing, it couldn’t fly and was apparently extremely delicious. It became extinct when sailors landed on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean in the late 16th century. The hungry Dutchmen kept on eating the dodo until there was nothing left! 6. Pyrenean Ibex In this case, we have a d-extinction? Thanks to science, extinction can be reversed and an interesting example of this was the Pyrenean Ibex, a wild goat that also has the Spanish title ‘bucardo’. These hardy little guys used to roam the Iberian Peninsula. Their distinctive horns were thick and curved on the males and shorter and thin on the females. 5. La Pinta Island tortoise La Pinta Island is part of the legendary Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. These islands were immortalized by Charles Darwin when he used the wildlife there as inspiration for the theory of evolution we still rely on today. Also known as ‘Abingdon Island’, La Pinta played host to a giant species of tortoise. 4. Quagga Until the late 1800s quaggas were a common sight in South Africa. A quagga was essentially a zebra only with a brown bottom half. It was a subspecies of the plains zebra and fell prey to hunters, who killed so many they wiped them off the map. For over a hundred years Mankind never saw a live quagga but then The Quagga Project started. 3. Tasmanian Tiger This Tasmanian Tiger isn’t exactly a tiger, it just got called that because of its stripes. The correct name was ‘thylacine’ and it was actually a large marsupial like a kangaroo. It also lived on the Australian mainland as well as Tasmania. 2. Steller’s Sea Cow If any species had it rough it was the Steller’s sea cow. This also includes manatees. Named after George W. Steller, the naturalist who discovered them in 1741, they were part of the ecosystem on the Komander Islands in the Bering Sea. 1. Great Auk The big name when it comes to extinct species is probably the Great Auk. It’s been referred to as the “original penguin” and you can see why. It’s black and white, short and it can’t fly. Look at that huge beak too. This little bird wouldn’t look out of place in ‘Happy Feet’. STRANGEST Planets In Space!

HD 188753 A planet was discovered to have not one, not two, but three suns glowing in the sky. It is located in HD 188753, a triple-star system located 149 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. Similar to Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine that had 2 suns, this Jupiter-like planet must have spectacular sunsets. The main star is similar in mass to our own sun and it orbits very close to it, completing one orbit every 3.5 days. It is still a complete mystery as to how this planet formed in such a complicated setting as the 3 stars would all be pulling it in 3 different directions. 9. CoRoT-7b This volcanic inferno was the first rocky planet confirmed to be orbiting another star outside of our solar system. Known as a Super Earth, it orbits a star 480 light-years away and weighs about 5x the mass of Earth. It is 23x closer to its star than Mercury is to our sun, bringing its surface temperature up to a hellish 4,000 degrees Farenheit (2,200 degrees Celsius). The same side is always facing the star and the other side is always in shadow, where temperatures can drop to minus 350 F (minus 210 C). This rocky planet may be the left-over core of a former gas giant whose atmosphere evaporated a long time ago. If so, it would be the first kind of this type of planet. The extreme heat is so terrible that it can actually vaporize rock. It's atmosphere could have weather systems that cause pebbles to condense out of the air and rain rocks onto the molten surface of the planet. Since it is so close to its star, it is very likely that this planet was once much larger, and is now evaporating before our eyes. 8. TrES-2b: The Dark Planet Since the Dark Planet is much more memorable name than TrES-2b, we'll just stick with that. This planet is literally darker than coal. Discovered by NASA's Kepler space telescope in 2006, it is the size of Jupiter and orbits a star around 750 light-years from Earth. It's nickname, the ‘Dark Planet’ comes from its unique status as the darkest planetary object in the known Universe. This gas giant is heated to 1800 degrees Farenheit (980 degrees Celsius) , and orbits extremely close to its parent star. According to current computer models, hot planets like Jupiter that are gas giants could only be as dark as Mercury, which reflects only 10% if sunlight that hits it. It is very strange that the Dark Planet only reflects about 1% of the light that hits it. It is even less reflective than coal and black acrylic paint. If we could see it up-close, it would look like a black ball of gas with a faint red glow. 7. 55 Cancri e – The Diamond Planet Initially discovered in 2004, 55 Cancri e (also known as Janssen) has been a mystery ever since the first analyses came through about its composition. Approximately the mass of 8 earths, it orbits its host star about 40 light years away from our solar system. Temperatures reach up to 3,100 Fahrenheit, and measurements of a transit captured in 2011 made it possible to calculate its density, and this is where it got interesting. It appears that this planet is actually solid and made up of a carbon-rich material, rather than the oxygen rich material that forms the rocky planets in our solar system. As a result it is very likely that this rocky planet is covered in carbon that has turned into diamond and graphite. According to the current market value of the diamond, it would be worth $26.9 nonillion. Forbes states that only 0.182% of the planet would need to be mined to pay back the entire debt that has been accumulated by all the governments on earth. 6. WASP-12b The ‘Wide Area Search for Planets’, also known as WASP, first discovered this planet in 2008, 600 light-years away. It orbits incredibly close to its parent star, about 1/44th of the distance that our planet orbits our sun, giving it a surface temperature of around 2200 degrees Celsius (3992 degree Farenheit). It is the hottest known planet in the Milky Way and it may also be the shortest-lived. The doomed planet is getting eaten by its parent star and the star's tidal forces are pulling away its atmosphere, turning it into an egg shape. This is the first time that we have been able to observe a star consuming a planet so clearly. At the current rate, WASP-12B may be entirely gone within 10 million years.

Most MYSTERIOUS Things Found In The Jungle!

The Lost City of Giants Deep in the Ecuadorian jungle, explorers discovered a lost city in 2012. However, it certainly wasn’t any normal ancient city. It is known as the “Lost City of Giants.” According to reports, upon arrival, the explorers found a set of massive structures, the largest being a 79-meter-tall by 79-meter-wide (260 ft x 260 ft) pyramid of unusual shape. At the top of the pyramid is a flat, polished stone, believed to have been a sacrificial altar. The magnitude of these buildings is what gives the city its name and leads many archaeologists to believe that giants did build and inhabit the city, although many others remain skeptical on that point. What makes this discovery even more peculiar is not just the buildings themselves but also the tools and artifacts found there. Many oversized, manufactured tools were said to have been discovered, allegedly so big that it would be impossible for humans to use them. The team that discovered the city believes that the tools are a crucial piece of evidence that in the distant past, giants once walked the Earth. 7. Maricoxi The Maricoxi are essentially the sasquatches of South America. They are reported to be huge, ape-like beings that can stand up to 3.7 meters (12 ft) tall. Although they appear primitive, they’re said to be fairly intelligent, wielding bows and arrows and even living in villages. According to British explorer Colonel Percival H. Fawcett, who allegedly encountered the creatures while mapping out the jungles of South America in 1914, they were extremely hairy and lived north of a tribe called the Maxubi. They could only speak in grunts and were extremely hostile toward humans. In the colonel’s book, Lost Trails, Lost Cities, he describes how he and his men were nearly attacked by the beasts when they got close to their village. However, they were able to keep the beasts away by firing their guns into the ground by the creatures’ feet, sending them running in terror. In 1925, Fawcett disappeared along with all his men while on an expedition to find a lost city. Theories suggest that they were killed by local tribes or died of starvation. However, some say they were killed by the Maricoxi, although there is no evidence to back this up. 6. Boiling River When he was only a boy, Andrés Ruzo, a geophysicist, heard a legend from his grandfather. This legend was about how the conquistadors went in search of El Dorado, the city of gold, deep in the Amazonian jungles. The fortunate few survivors of the expedition returned with all sorts of stories, ranging from man-eating snakes, jungle people with poison darts, trees bigger than they’d ever seen, and a boiling river capable of instantly killing anyone who would fall in its waters. This story remained with Ruzo into his adulthood. For his PhD, he decided to make Peru’s first detailed geothermal map. Boiling streams do exist. They are located near volcanoes or other geothermal hotspots. The Amazonian basin is nowhere near such places, and the existence of a boiling river would be next to impossible. However, as fate would have it, his aunt, of all people, was familiar with the boiling river. Not only had she been there before, but she was friends with the river shaman’s wife. She took Ruzo there, some 440 miles away from any volcanoes, and deep within the Peruvian jungle. The river itself is about 82 feet wide and 20 feet deep in some places, and for a distance of about 4 miles, its waters are close to boiling point. This site is known as Mayantuyacu, and is considered sacred by the natives. They use its waters for everything from cooking, brewing tea, or washing. Because Mayantuyacu is nowhere near a volcano, there isn’t a simple answer as to where the heat comes from. The best explanation so far, is that this water comes from far away, as far as the glaciers high up in the Andes Mountains. Then it goes through an immense network of fissures within the mountains themselves, then deep underground where it’s heated, only to come back out in this place, making this stretch of the river boil. 5. The Stone Spheres of Costa Rica Ever since the late 1930s, people have been discovering strange stone spheres scattered all across southern Costa Rica. In order to make room for banana plantations, farmers began clearing the jungle Origins Explained is the place to be to find all the answers to your questions, from mysterious events and unsolved mysteries to everything there is to know about the world and its amazing animals!

The Kingdom of Aksum The Ethiopian kingdom of Aksum has been the subject of many legends. Some say it’s the lost kingdom of the Queen of Sheba, while others say it’s the final resting place of the Ark of the Covenant. In reality, Aksum was an international trading power because it had access to both the Nile and Red Sea trading routes. Commerce thrived and, eventually, most Ethiopian peoples were under Aksumite rule. Its power and prosperity allowed it to expand into Arabia. A third century Persian philosopher listed it as one of the world’s four greatest kingdoms, alongside Rome, China, and Persia. In the fourth century, the kingdom adopted Christianity and continued to thrive long after Rome fell. In the 7th century, the kingdom began to decline. There were numerous reasons for this. One was climate change, which harmed crop production. Another factor was the Arab conquest of the Red Sea coastline. This caused Aksum to lose its primary trade advantage over its neighbors. By the eleventh or twelfth century, the Aksumite kingdom was replaced by the Zagwe dynasty and time covered up their prior power and dominance. 9. The Silla Kingdom The Silla Kingdom was one of the longest-standing royal dynasties ever. It’s rule began on the Korean Peninsula in 57 B.C. and came to an end in A.D. 935. A monarch named Bak Hyeok-geo-se founded the Silla kingdom. According to legend, he wasn’t born, but hatched from a mysterious egg in the forest. His queen was born from the ribs of a dragon. He created a culture that developed into a centralized, hierarchical society with a wealthy aristocratic class. Though there’s a lack of graves so we don’t know what they did with their deceased, archaeologists have found a variety of goods made by the Silla, including a gold-and-garnet dagger and a golden crown. In 668, the Silla unified Korea and began the Unified Silla dynasty, which continued until the kingdom came to its end in the tenth century. During the history of the dynasty, there were three queens, one of whom integrated Buddhism into the Silla culture. In 935, peasant uprisings brought an end to the dynasty. It’s pretty rare that peasant uprisings are able to bring down a whole dynasty! The people have spoken! 8. The Kush Kingdom The origins of the Kush Kingdom began around 8000 B.C. Archaeologists found ceramics dating from that period around the Kush capital city of Kerma. As early as 2400 B.C., Kush’s urban society was highly stratified and complex, supported by large-scale agriculture. Its northern neighbor, Egypt, exploited and conquered Kush from 1500 to 1000 B.C. The tables, though, turned in 750 B.C. when Kush conquered Egypt and they became even greater than the Egyptians if you can believe that! For over 100 years, Kushite pharaohs ruled a territory that outstripped the Egyptians. They revived pyramid building and promoted construction across the Sudan. An Assyrian invasion ousted them from Egypt and brought an end to the Egyptian and Kushite cultural exchange. The Kushites went south and reestablished themselves at Meroe on the southeast bank of the Nile. They broke away from Egyptian influence and developed a form of writing called Meroitic. Unfortunately, their script remains untranslated, casting much of Kush’s history in the dark. The last king of Kush passed in 300 A.D. However, why his kingdom declined and ended remains a mystery. 7. The Kingdom of Yam What little we know about the Kingdom of Yam comes from a few texts from Old Kingdom Egypt. We know it existed as a trading partner and possible rival of Old Kingdom Egypt. However, for a long time its precise location remained unknown and as elusive as that of the mythical Atlantis. Egyptian explorers found funerary inscriptions on the tomb of a governor for Upper Egypt named Harkhuf. In what is called “The Autobiography of Harkhuf”, he describes Yam was a land of “incense, ebony, leopard skins, elephant tusks, and boomerangs.” The inscriptions claim overland journeys to Yam exceeded seven months. Since Harkhuf made several expeditions in his lifetime, he would know. However, Egyptologists first placed Yam just a few hundred miles from the Nile. Conventional wisdom dictated the ancient Egyptians could not have crossed the inhospitable Saharan Desert. An Ancient Computer Recovered in the early 1900s by Greek divers, the Antikythera mechanism was found inside a Roman shipwreck near the Greek island of the same name. It is believed to the earliest form of a computer that is at least 2,000 years old. This complex clock-like device was used by ancient Greeks to calculate the movement of the stars and planets. The mechanism was composed of at least 30 different bronze gears and the whole thing was housed in a wooden frame that was decorated with thousands of characters. As so much of this period of history's technology has been lost, such advanced use of technology did not reappear in European historical artifacts until the 14th Century. It is now on display at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. The history of this device is shrouded in mystery. It is unclear how this intricate device ended up in the hands of Romans, but some believe the ill-fated ship was transferring a woman of importance to be married in Rome. The mechanism, among other impressive riches on board, may have been a wedding gift from her family. 8. Baltic Sea Anomaly The Baltic Sea Anomaly was accidently discovered by a team of diving experts and treasure hunters from the Ocean X Team in 2011. The divers found a circular object with a diameter of about 160 feet that appeared in a sonar image as it sat on the sea bottom. It looks like the “Millennium Falcon” from “Star Wars”, and has an architectural structure similar to Stonehenge in Britain. Oddly enough, all of the divers’ electrical equipment stopped functioning within 650 feet of the entity and it emits a strong radio signal. Some say it could be a pre-Ice Age artifact or a German anti-submarine device. A long track seems to lead towards the thing which makes people think it is some kind of landing strip. The Swedes finally managed to organize an expedition finally in 2012. The very first shots of the object at close range showed that it is unlikely it had ever flown. It seems that it is not a “flying saucer”, but rather a kind of construction. The most probable theory was provided by Volker Bryuherta from Stockholm University. According to him, it’s just a rock. Since the Baltic Sea came under the influence of melting glaciers, these rocks probably formed at the same time. But this does not explain why satellite phones and cameras stop working near this “rock”. Though various scientists have offered innumerable suggestions about the entity’s origins, the Baltic Sea anomaly still remains one of the unsolved intrigues and ocean mysteries of the world. 7. The Bimini Road The Bimini Road, sometimes called the Bimini Wall, is an underwater rock formation near North Bimini island in the Bahamas. Researchers, geologists, archaeologists, and scientists alike have visited and studied the huge, flat stones off the coast of Bimini, known as the Bimini Road . They have tried for years to discern whether the limestone blocks are a natural phenomenon, or evidence of an ancient lost civilization. About 20 feet down in the clear blue water, is a stone path. Most people think it's a road made up of limestone blocks that's about half a mile long, but no one knows where it goes or what its purpose might have been. The stone blocks are huge and some are about 13 feet long. An American expedition in 2004 discovered a second and third layer of stone blocks which also suggests a wall of some sort although they weren't able to get to the bottom. Some people think that this might be proof of the location for the lost city of Atlantis. 6. Emeralds Amateur diver and treasure hunter Jay Miscovish walked into a bar in Key West and bought a treasure map from a diver friend at a bar in 2010. He went on to discover more than 10,000 emeralds off the coast of Florida, making it one of the largest discoveries of sunken treasure in history. His company claimed that they had found over 154 pounds of emeralds, amethysts, and other stones lying on the ocean floor. Journalists from CBS news when to interview him and he poured out a laundry basked full of emeralds and told them that they likely came from an ancient shipwreck. The story earned him mass media attention but he refused to give out more information about the map and the man who had sold it to him, claiming he had paid him $50,000 to give up all rights to the treasure. Camera crews went with him on a dive and they also found emeralds and amethysts lying on the ocean floor but no hint as to the actual vessel that may have been transporting them.
