BMW E46 Rebuilt Engine Compression & Leakdown Results #m54rebuild 29

02:51
I began my rebuild when I did a compression test and noticed I had poor compression in cylinders 2-6 (about 142 psi, the bottom of the service limit). Cylinder 1 had 160 psi. A leakdown test showed leakage into each adjacent cylinder. Of course my engine also had the oil consumption problem (1 quart every 1000 miles) that every M54 engine has, which is caused by the oil rings which wear down prematurely (the M52TU used different oil rings which did not have this problem). There was also coolant loss, which I didn't measure precisely. E53 Front Axle Torn CV Boot Full Replacement (Similar to E46 Xi)

15:58
Both of the front outer CV boots were torn and I decided to replace the whole half axles rather than repair the boot as 90% of the time when you catch this problem there is already damage to the axle and it needs to be replaced anyway. So here is how to do it. This same procedure basically applies to the E46 4wd Xi versions, just with smaller components. BMW E46 M54 Cracked Cylinder Head #m54rebuild 19

06:26
I began my rebuild when I did a compression test and noticed I had poor compression in cylinders 2-6 (about 142 psi, the bottom of the service limit). Cylinder 1 had 160 psi. A leakdown test showed leakage into each adjacent cylinder. Of course my engine also had the oil consumption problem (1 quart every 1000 miles) that every M54 engine has, which is caused by the oil rings which wear down prematurely (the M52TU used different oil rings which did not have this problem). There was also coolant loss, which I didn't measure precisely. It's pretty clear that was caused by the cracks in the cylinder head, particularly the crack at the surface of #2. The piston in that cylinder was somewhat cleaner than all the rest. To see all the videos in the #m54rebuild series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqJG4ZyPIF6OflXtgLWJOFdsiuc-UrZJX To see all the rebuild specs for the M54/M52 series engines: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g6fqtycr1lz5ila/AACOP0_5yPGUHx1gkDUyDIBQa?dl=0 My cylinder head turned out to have cracks in it. If I had examined it more closely I would have noticed. Here is what to look for. I ended up buying another used head from a junkyard for $120 and it has been rebuilt by the machine shop. They were nice enough not to charge me for the cleaning on this one. How to Replace Coils And Plugs on a Mini

07:39
I never do parts swapping to fix a problem. I did this because a friend showed up having called the mini dealer and getting told by them it is common for the coils to go bad on these cars and they usually replace all the coils and plugs when it happens. He wanted to do that, didn't want to pay them, I have the tools to do it, so I did it for him and I figured it would be useful to someone out there because you do need a "special" socket for the spark plugs, as well as torx sockets for the cover. How To Cut, Program, and Repair BMW Keys!!

Get in touch with him on his Facebook Marketplace: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/266458663817338 Or give him a call at (949) 491-3422. Is your BMW key dead? Or is it working intermittently? It happens to a lot of people because the rechargeable battery inside the key does not last forever. When this happens a lot of people try to cut the key open to replace that battery and they end up damaging the circuit board inside. That's what happened to me and I ended up having to buy a new key from the BMW dealer. Well I wish I had seen this video before I went through all that, because it would have saved me a bunch of money! A viewer of mine named Ismail actually has a key making and fixing business and he came and hooked me up! He made me some flip keys and even fixed the bad diamond key on Black Savage. BMW E46 Stripped Head Bolt Repair in Aluminum Block #m54rebuild 21

32:42
I began my rebuild when I did a compression test and noticed I had poor compression in cylinders 2-6 (about 142 psi, the bottom of the service limit). Cylinder 1 had 160 psi. A leakdown test showed leakage into each adjacent cylinder. Of course my engine also had the oil consumption problem (1 quart every 1000 miles) that every M54 engine has, which is caused by the oil rings which wear down prematurely (the M52TU used different oil rings which did not have this problem). There was also coolant loss, which I didn't measure precisely. To see all the videos in the #m54rebuild series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqJG4ZyPIF6OflXtgLWJOFdsiuc-UrZJX To see all the rebuild specs for the M54/M52 series engines: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g6fqtycr1lz5ila/AACOP0_5yPGUHx1gkDUyDIBQa?dl=0 In a previous video when I first removed my head bolts, I retorqued them to make sure none of the threads were tightened down, and all of them seemed ok when I did that, however when I got the block back from the machine shop, I noticed one of the threads was starting to pull up a little so I put the block back on and torqued them again and they pulled out. So it looks like I need to repair them by drilling out the holes and installing TimeSerts. I use a drill press to do this. What you see in this video is not my original idea--there is another video on YouTube doing the exact same procedure, so I want to give all credit to that original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXGm5_Vogy4 Hopefully I have just shown you one or two things to watch out for in performing the actual repair. There is a cheaper aftermarket kit that contains all 4 of the bushings that I replaced in this video, which, honestly, I wish I had known about before spending about $61 at my local parts house for these things: http://amzn.to/2xaWkV6 If you want genuine parts: 25117580281 - Gearshift rod joint - http://amzn.to/2wJvsZk 25111222015 - shifting arm bearing - http://amzn.to/2wIIuGF 25117507695 - bush bearing oval - http://amzn.to/2gNcgWK 25111220600 - shift lever bearing - http://amzn.to/2wIAkOh You'll have to dig through realoem.com if you want other part numbers for this swap. You can also look at various posts on e46fanatics for the details on this swap. Several people have made DIYs and one person made an excel spreadsheet with every part number and bolt. Toyota 4Runner Misfire Diagnosis Using a Test Light

12:04
While my engine block and cylinder head are at the machine shop being rebuilt, my sister's 4Runner showed up with what was told to me would be a clutch job but turned out to be a simple misfire situation. Here's how to diagnose something like this, featuring some nice test light diagnosis work that I picked up from ScannerDanner.
