Cracking Cobra

08:32
Cobra Crack is the de facto kingline of North American trad climbing. A stunning wall of overhanging granite split by a singular seam, barely wide enough to get your fingers into; it's a crack climber's dream. Since Mason Earle first tried Cobra Crack in 2009, the route has called him back to Squamish, BC again and again. For better or for worse, the route has become a part of his history. Take a look as Mason goes back to confront the Cobra this past summer. This is Cracking Cobra.

Ringlock Ranch

The desert is full of secrets, especially for a climber. There are many miles of cliffs waiting to be explored. Mason Earle has been driving force in the desert, and has spent many years searching the canyons of Utah for new routes. Over the past decade he has established some of the area’s most wicked climbs. This past spring Mason discovered an amazing unclimbed crack in a remote canyon seldom visited by climbers. This is the story of Ringlock Ranch.

The towering granite spires of the Bugaboos in the Purcell Range of Interior BC are legendary for classic big-wall climbs in a remote and stunning location. Known as one of the greatest alpine playgrounds in all of North America, Bugaboo Provincial Park holds a long list of classic climbs with deep history in the rock world. Eddie Bauer climbers Mason Earle and Erik Leidecker heli-dropped into the Bugs this past fall for climbs of the Beckey-Chouinard, the Kain Route and a probable FFA of the Gar Wall.

Eddie Bauer - Freeing The Verdon Gorge

03:41
In this transportive Cheyne Lempe video, Eddie Bauer free climbers Katie Lambert and Caroline George climb with pride in the visually stunning Verdon Gorge of southern France, where classily run-out, sandbagged and delicate routes recall an earlier pioneering era of airy sport climbing. The trip involved high-grade free climbing on Surveiller et Punir and Pichenibule that Lambert had envisioned since her early training days in the American deep south and one that forced Caroline George to face her alpinist’s fear of falling on the atmospheric rock routes that made the towering cliffs famous in international climbing circles. Put the headphones on and enjoy.

Climbing Colombia with Katie Lambert

01:48
As the spring season heated up, climbers head south in search of new destinations to build their strength and stamina. One rising destination in the Southern Hemisphere is the La Mojarra climbing area on the Mesa de los Santos next to the Chicamocha Canyon National Park in Colombia. Known for bullet-hard red sandstone, overhanging sport routes and surreal climbing above a picturesque valley, the zone has started drawing international climbers due to its growing reputation. Eddie Bauer climbers Mason Earle and Katie Lambert journeyed to the area, staying at the climber epicenter of Refugio La Roca and tested their spring skills by sampling the hardest routes in La Mojarra’s 5.8 to 5.14a range. On down days, the team experienced the cultural travel aspects of a spot featuring stunning National Park vistas, thriving farmer’s markets and some of the best coffee in the world.

Skeena Dreaming with Andrew Bennett and Lucas St. Clair

04:34
The Skeena River and its tributaries are a legendary destination for wild chinook and steelhead fly-fishing in northern British Columbia. The second-longest river system in BC, the undammed 350-mile Skeena is a life-list angling location due to its long, wild runs and productive fly fishing for all four native trophy species: chinook, steelhead, coho, and Dolly Varden. Eddie Bauer Sport Shop guides Andrew Bennett and Lucas St. Clair landed in Terrace, BC and the riverside Skeena Spey Lodge last spring to fish the legendary braided bigwater of this system via jet-boat-accessed wading. Utilizing two-handed rods with locally designed flies and sink tips, they maintained mental focus during twelve-hour days in rough coastal weather fishing the Kalum—a lake-fed tributary of the Skeena. Eventually their patience and persistence paid off, with St. Clair landing a 12-pound wild steelhead on a black-and-blue intruder pattern tied the night before and named the Richard Sherman.

In the big wall free climbing world, the aesthetic sandstone crack system on Moonlight Buttress stands as an iconic line on nearly every climber's life list. But for Eddie Bauer athlete Katie Lambert, one milestone on that multi-pitch testpiece elevated its significance to something greater and much more personal than just a single potential tick on the resume.

First Ascent of High Times in Tuolumne

04:57
Eddie Bauer athlete and renowned climbing photographer Ben Ditto ticks the first ascent of High Times (5.13b), a steep, northeast-facing line on Drug Dome in Tuolumne Meadows. A longtime Yosemite local, Ditto ticked his initial first ascent on one of climbing’s holiest grounds as a means of finding motivation again after a period of social-media driven “living the dream” malaise. Owen Bissell captures the pitch-by-pitch essence of the ten-day, hand-drilled, four-pitch, free climbing rebirth in this stunning edit from the Sierra high ground.

Andrew Bennett has chased trophy fish around the globe with his fly rod in hand, so when he picked the easy access of an undisclosed Hawaiian location for his next bonefishing trip, we knew it would either be really, really good or really, really exotic. It turned out the trip and the location were a little bit of both. In his latest global fishing report, the Sport Shop guide reports from a prime Pacific fishery with a distinct cultural feel, where he saw the biggest bonefish of his life.

Dave Hahn Record Breaking Climb of Everest

02:29
On the South Col side of the mountain, a challenging and crowded climbing season still granted Eddie Bauer First Ascent guides Dave Hahn and Melissa Arnot access to reach the summit on May 26th and set Everest records in the process. With calculated patience, Hahn earned his 14th summit of Mt. Everest, setting a new record by most non-Sherpa summits of the world's tallest peak. Melissa Arnot claimed her fourth summit, setting a new record for the most summits for any Western woman. As part of the Eddie Bauer South Col team, Leif Whittaker retraced the record-setting steps of his father Jim to the summit. "It was a slightly surreal day, as always, hanging out at 8,000 meters," Hahn says in his characteristically understated tone. But in a season that once again presented challenges from avalanches, rockfall and tragedy to long lines of climbers on prime summit days, Hahn was called the 'King of Patience' for his efforts in leading the team to a safe and successful summit. "I never thought I would be lucky enough to summit Everest once, let alone four times," Arnot summarizes. "The experience has given me a sense of gratitude grounded in the idea that anything is possible."

But Alaska can be an unforgiving place. Instead of a quiet glacier camp and rejuvenating alpine climb on 14,831-foot Mt. Bear in the St. Elias range, her small self-supported team experienced sketchy crevasse-ridden navigation, multiple life-threatening situations and a storm that held them captive until they ran out of food. Snowbound Alaska captures their brutal alpine climbing experience.

Mason Earle's Insider's Guide To Joshua Tree - Episode 2

05:30
Eddie Bauer climber Mason Earle is at home in the cosmic climbing vortex of Joshua Tree. With more than 9,000 known and slightly sandbagged routes on its characteristic monzogranite rock, a storied Stonemaster legacy of climbing lore, and an environment that is a mosaic of miniature worlds, it’s a dry rock location that has drawn climbers on seasonal pilgrimages for decades. Earle migrated south last fall with climbers Ben Ditto and Katie Lambert to tackle aesthetic boulder problems, classic trad routes and some sporty sport climbing—but he also dove deep into the distinct culture of the area to understand what makes the place so original, so unusual and so compelling. This past fall, Eddie Bauer climbers Katie Lambert and Caroline George landed in the Spanish national park and joined up to climb the Murciana 78 (7c+) route on the same imposing Naranjo de Bulnes West Face that Caroline's mother Martine was the first woman to climb in 1971 via the Rabadá-Navarro (6c+) route. Expedition: Freshfields - Part 2

03:09
Expedition: Freshfields The Freshfields are a hushed touring zone in the Canadian Rockies, legendary for their looming peaks and late-season snowpacks. Located north of Golden, BC on the border of Banff National Park, the Freshfields are one of the largest glacial systems in Western Canada and sit below a crown jewel selection of jagged 10,000 to 11,000-foot peaks. Last spring, Eddie Bauer splitboarders Scott Newsome, Chris Coulter and Wyatt Caldwell linked up with ACMG guide Trevor Gavura to tick off a serious mountaineering mission in this remote zone. Heli-dropping in close Crown Land proximity to the zone, the team set up glacial base camp on the Alberta/BC border of the National Park then waited out a massive spring storm in Pantheon Dome style with expedition grilling, snow structure building and plenty of shoveling. It was worth the wait. When the weather finally cracked blue, the team ticked day-after-day of trophy descents by skintrack access in this Great Canadian Divide region of towering summits and massive icefields. Expedition Freshfields is the three-part, extended cut story of their trip of a lifetime in this zone.

And beyond the massive vertical and freeride energy, Jackson, WY defines the stereotype of an iconic mountain town. But Jackson Hole is far from a secret spot. Many words have been written and TGR-inspired films produced about this gravity-fueled nirvana, but like any mountain town, Jackson is best experienced through the lens of deeply rooted local. We got lucky in Jackson last winter, both because we landed during the biggest storm cycle of the season but, more importantly, because Eddie Bauer freeskier and creative force Lynsey Dyer offered to show us around. Legendary Characters

07:16
Locker vom Hocker: A Foray into Legend All good stories contain legendary characters and this one is no different. Once upon time there were two influences in the world of climbing known as Kurt Albert and Wolfgang Gullich, unique to the times they pushed the limits of possibility. The two made quite the partnership with their greatest legacy being the myriad of routes they opened together, taking their experience and strength far beyond the local cliffs and into the mountains and alpine, leaving a legacy of routes for the rest of us to follow. On a February morning in 2016 as Eddie Bauer Athlete Katie Lambert (@katiebirdlambert) rummaged through the contents of a box of her husband and fellow EB Athlete, Ben Ditto’s (@benjaminbditto) old climbing media from the 90’s she came across an image of Heinz Zak climbing a beautiful line of alpine limestone titled, “Locker vom Hocker.” Her interest was piqued and when she discovered it was established by by Albert and Gullich, making it the first German grade VIII in the Wetterstein (limestone alps) of Austria, she knew the two of them had to climb it. Several months later, inspired by a photograph, and with tickets in hand Ditto and Lambert ventured into Bavaria to seek an adventure and what they found was the stuff legends are made of. Please join us in watching their journey to Locker vom Hocker. Filmed by @benjaminbditto, @katiebirdlambert Edit: @tarakerzhner Sound: @cleod9 music

The West Ridge 1963: Everest 50th Anniversary

To honor the anniversary of the first West Ridge ascent, Jake Norton, David Morton, Charley Mace and Brent Bishop travelled to Everest and followed in the footsteps of Unsoled and Hornbein's route to within 150 vertical meters of the West Ridge. They spent 45 brutal days battling the mountain but due to dry, wind-scoured terrain, excessive rockfall and brutal climbing conditions that included avalanche danger and bulletproof, ancient ice in the Hornbein Couloir, the West Ridge refused to be climbed in 2012. The West Ridge team was turned back and forced to abandon their climb, but the images they captured are a potent reminder of the magnitude of the first West Ridge ascent and the challenge that still remains.

David makes his living guiding some of the world’s most incredible peaks and Nepal is like a second home. He wanted to deepen Thorne’s understanding of the world beyond their Seattle neighborhood. Engaging with this world helps us grow. “There’s a basic paradox to parenting,” says David. “ You have to keep your kids safe, but you have to teach them to take risks and follow curiosity. Life is undeniably richer with a little bit of daring."
