Over 1,000,000 people have viewed my original video on how to fold a suit jacket. Many have asked for a more in-depth, slower description of the jacket folding for luggage or a suitcase. Here, the fold is done in a much better lighting where every step can be seen in its entirety including a close crop, slow-motion version at the end. Stop and pause each section of this tutorial to master the fold. It's a trick of the trade that's been handed down to me from generations of clothiers in my family. It really works!

When to avoid wearing jeans with a jacket: https://gentl.mn/should-you-wear-jeans-with-jacket SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Burgundy Red Handcrafted Linen Pocket Square with White Handrolled X Stitch: https://gentl.mn/2KfM7sD 2. Navy and Yellow Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Fil d'Ecosse Cotton: https://gentl.mn/2AwtYaw #denim #jeans #notsponsored How you can pull off wearing jeans with jacket? 1. Pair your blazer or sport coat only with your dressiest jeans. That means no holes and no used look. Also it's really important that you have enough contrast between your sport coat and your jeans. In terms of cut, a straight leg or maybe something that slightly tapered works best. Definitely avoid really baggy cuts as well as a bootcut. Also don't cuff or pin roll your jeans because that's simply too casual. 2. Rather than going with a navy blazer, instead branch out and maybe go with jackets that have different colors as well as patterns and materials because that's more contrasting or interesting, but also more casual and it works better with jeans. 3. Make sure to wear your denim and your sport coat with casual shirts to bridge the gap formalities. Long-sleeve dress shirts are good but ideally you should avoid the most formal variations in solid white because they're just too businesslike. 4. Wear the combination of jeans and sport coat with the right kind of shoes. Black oxfords are way too formal and not appropriate. At the same time boat shoes are too informal and should likewise be avoided. What shoes should you wear? Ideally go with brown tones or burgundy and oxblood. If you want to be a little more experimental you can think about olive green, grey or maybe navy. In terms of styles, a classic derby shoe is good just like those burgundy derbies or olive green derbies. Alternatively, you could opt for loafers either tassel loafers or penny loafers. Another good options are monk straps such as those brown single monks with some broguing and a wingtip or those more fashion-forward double monks in burgundy. If you want to go with oxfords go with brogues either half brogues or full brogues. Other good options include chukka boots or Chelsea boots. In terms of leather texture, suede is really great to combine with jeans and a sport coat. Why? Simply because it's a little more casual. When should you not wear jeans and jacket together? 1. The biggest mistake I see men make in this situation is that they pair a traditional business suit with a pair of jeans they have. Particularly it's that black business suit jacket or that pinstripe jacket that they wear with dark blue jeans and it just looks weird and odd. 2. Don't combine jeans with a double-breasted business jacket. Double-breasted is typically more formal. However in recent years double-breasted jackets have become a lot more popular especially at Pitti Uomo. And if you have something that has a nice linen blend maybe with the Prince of Wales pattern and lighter colors, you can definitely combine them with jeans. 3. Never wear a t-shirt with jeans underneath a jacket because it's a clash of formalities. 4. Never wear any kind of black shoes especially not black dress shoes with this combination because it looks out of place. Instead go with browns, tan tones, burgundy tones, greens or anything else but not black. 5. Jeans with a jacket are not ideal if you want to wear a tie, a bow tie or maybe an ascot simply because it would be too formal and a clash. Instead go with a pocket square or maybe a boutonniere because that creates a visual interest and it just creates for a more polished look. 6. Don't wear jeans with a jacket if you want to have a formal dress shirt. 7. Don't wear jeans and a sport coat if you don't know the dress code or if you're unsure about the formality at the event or the occasion you will wear it to. During the colder months of the year, a tweed jacket works really well with jeans simply because it's more casual by definition. That being said there are tons of other jackets which are less formal and therefore equally as well suited to jeans as a tweed jacket. Some of them include a Panama jacket which is more of a summery jacket. Another one, the Harrington jacket. --------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------ Want to stay updated? When you need a new suit, you have lots of different options these days. There are more brands to choose from than ever before. This is great, but it can be a little overwhelming. I want to help you choose the best option for your needs and budget. For the typical gentleman, here’s what I would suggest: First, try to find something that fits well off the rack. Assume it will need a little tailoring, as this is totally normal with suits. Set aside $50-100 for basic alterations, such as getting the pants hemmed, sleeves shortened and jacket taken in. If you can’t find anything that fits well enough off the rack, consider going custom. For most guys, this means made-to-measure. If money isn’t an issue - and/or you’re willing and able to invest in a great suit that you’ll wear for years - bespoke is definitely the way to go. Prioritize companies that have showrooms (or fit shops) near you. It’s much better to go get your measurements taken, in person and by a professional, than to submit your own measurements. If you can’t find a local option, it’s time to go the online MTM route. Of all the companies I’ve tried out, my experience has been with Oliver Wicks and Black Lapel. If I had to pick, I’d choose Oliver Wicks. But please understand that I’ve had a lot of time to dial in my measurements with them. Black Lapel did a great job on the first (and only) suit they made for me. #modestman #notsponsored #customsuits — SHOP THE VIDEO ▪ Polo Shirt → https://rstyle.me/n/c8uhp3n4v6 ▪ Suit Supply Suit → https://fave.co/2CwRgxI ▪ Oliver Wicks Suit→ https://fave.co/2NT0cyV ▪ Alan David Suit → https://www.alandavid.com — RELATED VIDEOS ▪ 5 Reasons to Buy a Custom Suit → https://youtu.be/4NnQxnAkesM ▪ Men's Style and Grooming Tricks → https://youtu.be/bdXRVgIaXfM — MY GEAR ▪ Canon T6i → http://geni.us/4kSX ▪ Laptop → http://fave.co/2hgKaDF ▪ Laptop stand → http://fave.co/2vQwBj3 ▪ Lens #1 (50mm) → http://geni.us/OiE9 ▪ Lens #2 (10-18mm) → http://geni.us/qgGQckE ▪ Lens #3 (24mm) → http://geni.us/x61A ▪ Lav mic → http://geni.us/ZBlvGh ▪ Desk mic → http://geni.us/wCdS7t2 — YOUTUBE MUSIC → https://goo.gl/UhwtMb — STYLE GUIDES ▪ Free E-Books → http://mdst.mn/guide-pack ▪ Premium Guide → http://mdst.mn/tmmsg — FOLLOW ME ▪ Podcast → http://fave.co/2vej94M ▪ Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/modestmanstyle/ ▪ Twitter → https://twitter.com/modestmanstyle ▪ Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/modestmanblog/ ▪ Private Group → https://www.facebook.com/groups/modestmen — Contains affiliate links // Stay stylish!

If you watched my video on how to fold a suit jacket you will be intrigued on my thoughts on how to fold a tie. It's actually fairly easy and self explanatory. Most importantly is to keep the tie straight without rolling or curving the interior lining. The goal is to be sure that the tie will lay flat when you wear it after you take it out of the luggage. Pack your carry on like a PRO: https://gentl.mn/how-to-pack-a-carry-on Travelling for a longer period of time? https://gentl.mn/2Dq8tpF SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Two-Tone Knit Tie in Black and Magenta Pink Changeant Silk - https://gentl.mn/2kBW7VE 2. Burgundy Silk Pocket Square with little Paisley Motifs - https://gentl.mn/2yVfdbF 3. Blue Socks with Red and White Clocks - https://gentl.mn/2ycUuT8 First of all, if you go with air travel, I suggest you go with a spinner suitcase with nice wheels that roll very easily so you can maneuver it very easily, but it should also be stable so you can put a little briefcase or another carry-on item on top of it while you walk with it. Packing a small carry-on suitcase is very different from packing a larger spinner suitcase, so if you want to see how a larger one is packed please check out this video here. So how do you pack a small carry-on suitcase? First of all, put out all the items you want to bring on your trip onto your bed or maybe on the floor if the bed is not large enough. Remove all excessive items and only bring the bare bones you really actually need. If it's just a one-day business trip, you simply need one pair of shoes, and I simply suggest to wear it. If it's a two or three-day business trip, you want to bring another pair of shoes but that's it. I always suggest to go with black cap toe Oxfords, maybe Balmoral ones that add a little decoration, if you have very big feet, maybe a derby shoe is the way to go. First, let's start with the pants. You want to fold them in thirds because that way, it fits into your suitcase. lay that on the flat side of your carry-on suitcase. In this video, I'm using a small houndstooth suit simply so you can see better how I fold it. If you got a business trip, probably a solid navy suit, or charcoal, or light gray, or gray suit, are the better way to go. Second, if you have a three-piece suit with the vest, you simply take the vest, fold it in half and make sure the top ends align, as well as the bottom tips of the waistcoat, then you simply just roll it up. Again, you have a nice little fabric roll, now put the roll aside. Now, it’s time for the jacket. Take the left sleeve and pull it inside out, make sure to pull it all the way through. Now on that same sleeve, go to the shoulder and push it, and fold it inside out, this creates the perfect shape and it fits right into the opposite shoulder that wasn't folded. We do this to protect the shoulder so doesn't get crushed and wrinkled. Now take the rolled-up waistcoat, and stuff it into the shoulder area so it gives it additional support and prevents it from wrinkling. Now you fold up the jacket so it lays neatly in the case on top of the pants. Usually, there's a little gap on top of the shoulder, I use that to roll up some ties and ideally, knit ties because they're less prone to getting wrinkles. Now, it's time to close that compartment and let's look at the other side of the suitcase. The socks, underwear, and undershirt, that didn't fit into my shoes now go in between the telescope mechanism so we create a somewhat flat surface. I put in the shoes sideways so they use up as little space as possible. Maybe if you want to bring a sweater or a cardigan, now is the time to put it in here. If you want to bring a long sleeve polo shirt for a casual evening outing, I usually roll it rather than folding it because a. it's quicker, b. it saves me space and c. it's not prone to wrinkling as much as let's say a dress shirt. If you want to bring any other folded items such as a t-shirt, an undershirt, I would roll those as well. Once you've put all the things in, it's time to fill the gaps. Maybe you want to bring suspenders, they should be rolled up and you can stuff them in a gap. Usually, somewhere around the shoes, with a belt, you can also roll it up but if you don't have enough space anymore, you can simply unroll it and lay it around the edges, that way, you'll maybe fit even more things into your suitcase. #howtopackacarryon #travel #howtopack -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Petrol Blue Men's Gloves - https://gentl.mn/2CeGM1X 1. Don't just buy the same black boring overcoat that every other man out there has. Black, in my opinion, is quite overrated especially for overcoats because it shows every little hair and dust speck and you just blend in. 2. Do look for longer overcoats. By that, I mean something that covers your knee because you stay warmer that way and traditionally, it's a very classic look that won't go out of style anytime soon. 3. Do opt for hundred percent natural materials in overcoats. Unfortunately, even expensive overcoats these days are often blended because it makes the fabric less expensive and thus more affordable or increases the profit margins of the manufacturer. While polyester nylon fibers can make a garment more durable, they're not as insulating as natural fibers such as cashmere, or wool, or alpaca, and because of that, I'd stay clear of them. 4. Don't buy an overcoat with a zipper. Yes, you can see them in ski jackets and functional jackets but an overcoat is a classic garment that is stylish and as such, you'd go with buttons. 5. Opt for a double-breasted one. Yes, it's true that single-breasted coats are the norm out there but double breasted ones make you stand out from the crowd and on top of that, they keep you warmer because they have two layers of fabric on top of each other. 6. Don't forget the Hat. An overcoat is great to be worn with a hat because it keeps you warmer and because it's a classic garment, it is stylish, a hat always works well together. 7. Do wear a boutonniere or a pocket square with your overcoat. 8. Don't buy an overcoat that is too large and baggy because it makes you look unattractive. First of all, determine how you want to wear your overcoat. If you do want to wear a jacket underneath, make sure you have enough room in your overcoat. 9. Do look for striking yet classic details. No, I don't want you to wear bright orange reflective overcoats, however, I urge you to consider maybe an interesting weave in the fabric such as on this one here, where you can see, it consists out of gray, black, and blue, and because of that, it's super versatile because I can wear with all kinds of suits in those colors. 10. Don't buy overcoats that combine the styles of different overcoats because they will look dated very quickly. 11. Don't be afraid to invest a little money in a good-quality overcoat because it's something that will last you longer than a suit most of the time and you also have to buy fewer of them. 12. Do consider vintage overcoats. Personally, I love vintage overcoats because they have heavier fabrics that drape really really well and on top of that, they have interesting color combinations such as the coat I'm wearing here right now, in fact, most of the overcoats in my collection are vintage. 13. Don't mix an overcoat with casual attire. If you want to wear your sweatpants, maybe go with a quilted jacket or a hoodie and leave the overcoat at home. 14. Do look for heavy fabrics in an overcoat because they're much more forgiving, they don't show wrinkles as easily, and they'll keep you warm. 15. Don't show any cuff on an overcoat. With regular suit jackets or sport coats, most men want to show a little bit of their shirt cuff. With an overcoat, that's not the case, you want it to reach all the way down to the beginning of your thumb. 16. Do look for the little button in the vent area because when it's very windy, you can just close it and stay warmer that way. BONUS: If you wear an overcoat, try to add classic accessories such as a scarf or gloves. #overcoatsformen #mensovercoats #notsponsored --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? When traveling it's important to pack efficiently, organized and smart. I show a method to roll your clothing into a tight bundle that makes it compact and easy to transport. Rolling your clothes is a great way to prevent wrinkles and conserve space. When you roll clothing you can fit more than you can normally by folding or just placing clothes into your luggage bag. This can also be used for things other than traveling such as any time you are moving clothing and want to conserve space. The same method can be used on other clothes that I did not demonstrate such a shorts. Which are rolled the same way the pants were rolled. Small items of clothing such as socks and underwear can be placed on top of a T-shirt and rolled up inside the shirt. If you enjoy the channel, please support Von Malegowski: - https://www.paypal.me/VonMalegowski - https://www.patreon.com/vonmalegowski The clothes rolling technique may seem like it takes longer than simply folding the clothes but if you do it more you will become more proficient and see that it really doesn't take much longer and produces better results. If you are worried about wrinkling your clothing you can unpack them when you reach your destination and they shouldn't have any wrinkles yet. If your clothes do have wrinkles I have a video about removing wrinkles from clothes without an iron 👕(https://youtu.be/j0RdBRiHyfE)👕 which shows some easy methods of removing wrinkles. Connect With Me: - Twitter: https://twitter.com/VonMalegowski - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vonmalegowski/ - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/VonMalegowski2 The first T-shirt in the video was designed by me and can be purchased at http://vonmalegowski.spreadshirt.com/ Clothing Traveling Tips: Some simple tips to help you pick suitable clothing for traveling. #1: When choosing your clothing for a trip, look at each item’s fabric and consider the following factors: quality, thickness, weight, wrinkles, transparency, and texture. Ideal travel clothing is durable, takes up minimal space and weight, is wrinkle-free, opaque, and matches with the rest of your clothing in style and fit. #2: Be aware of your color palette when selecting clothing. If your color palettes are cross compatible, you will have many outfits from less clothing. #3: Most places you go will have much of what you need. You can buy almost anything, anywhere in the world. So you can get away with only packing half of what you think you’ll need. #4: Versatile, low-maintenance clothing is important when packing light. Consider 5 factors that make an article of clothing desirable when traveling and aim to have each piece you bring satisfy at least 3 of them. - Comfortable for touring around, but can be dressed up for the evening - Is appropriate for cool or warm weather - Doesn’t show stains - Folds up small - Coordinates well with almost everything else you’re bringing By doing this you maximize the usage of each article of clothing so you can bring less. #5: If you’re traveling for longer than 7 days only pack enough clothes for 7 days, no matter how long you’re traveling for. It’s easier to find a Laundromat once a week then carry around the extra weight of more clothing than is necessary. #6: Avoid clothing that is too bulky and may take up too much space and Instead of bringing a bulky jacket, bring a light jacket and dress in layers. #7: A long sleeve and a short sleeve button shirt will work well for most places you travel to as well as some T-shirts. #8: Roll your clothing efficiently to allow for more space. Using the method I demonstrate can save a lot of space and allow you to pack lighter. Thanks for watching. -- TRANSCRIPT Hi there, I’m going to show you one of the most popular ways to tie a tie – using the Windsor knot – also known as the Double Windsor or the Full Windsor. Start with your collar up and the tie around your neck. If you are right handed, hold the wide end of the tie in your right hand and the narrow end of the tie in your left hand. Now, it is important to remember that the longer you make the wide end, the lower the tie will hang when you are finished. Basically, you want to line up your tie like this. If you remember this, you will save yourself a lot of time later on. Now cross each end over – wide end over the top – and leave about this much on the narrow end. That is about four inches or ten centimetres. With your left hand, take the wide end of the tie. Thread it through the back of this opening from behind. Thread it all the way through, like this. Now take the wide end of the tie, and with your left hand, wrap it all the way around the back like this. Switch hands. Notice here how the back of the tie is facing outward. Taking the wide end, now, in your right hand, thread it through the front of this opening. Alright! The hardest part is now done; the rest is easy! What you can see here is the inside of your knot. It should look a bit like a triangle. Put your left index finger on the knot, like this, and keep it there. With your other hand, wrap the wide end around the knot, from right to left – and then grab it from behind. Keep your index finger where it is. With your right hand, push the wide end through this opening again – from the back. Alright, here comes the punch-line! Your index finger has created a little tunnel. What you need to do now is thread the tie down through the tunnel. The last step now is to adjust and tighten it – alternating between the long end and the short end of the tie – gradually pulling the knot up – shaping it as you go – until the tie is just how you want it to be – a sharp, symmetrical, triangular knot. Pull your collar down – and bingo! – a full Windsor knot. Thank you for watching. I hope you found this helpful. -- Music: Strut Funk by Dougie Wood (Source: YouTube Audio Library)

Watch more Men's Fashion Guide videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514750-How-to-Know-If-a-Suit-Fits-Properly-Mens-Fashion Hello I'm Charles, we are at Louis Purple in New York and I'm here to tell you a few tips in order to know if a suit fits right. So, the first thing you want to look at when judging a suit is how it fits on your shoulder. So it should be really exact. If a suit is too tight on the shoulders or too wide, the overall look of the suit is going to be pretty much destroyed. There are a lot of right fits for a suit, depending on whether you want to wear an extreme tight fit and you like to have the suit pretty much painted on, or if you want like more of a relaxed look, there are various things to take into consideration. What we're going to be talking about here is like the general, classic slim-fit look that you can find, for example, in our store. First thing you look at, like I said, is the shoulder line. You want it to fit right, not too snug, not too relaxed. Then you go down and look at the button stance. You don't want it to be too high and depending on whether you're a tall person or more on the shorter end, you probably notice that nowadays we don't see any more 3-button suits and men usually like to go for a 2-button notch lapel. That's the most conservative type. Bringing down the first button is going to help us enhance your silhouette and make you look taller for people that are on the shorter side. Then lets talk about how fitted a suit should be. On a daily basis we have people coming here and really asking us to remove any extra fabric from the suit and that's not really the right approach in my opinion, because whenever a suit is too fitted you have like, the button pulling and creating this like "x"-shaped mark and usually it's a good indicator that a suit is too tight on you. About the sleeve lengths now, on the jacket the right length is that you just allow a little bit of the shirt to show. Probably about a quarter of an inch or 1cm if you like the metric system like me. Let's talk about the trousers now. If you like to have a fitted jacket, you don't want to have baggy looking pants. And you want to go for like a slim, tapered look for the trousers, with a minimum amount of break on the trousers. When I say "break" I talk about how the trousers sit on top of the shoe. So there are different ways to wear it, depending on your personality and the kind of image you want to project. You can go with a no-break type of look, where it's barely hitting the shoe. So, it's actually not hitting the shoe and when you walk around the sock is going to show. Otherwise you can go with like a pretty limited amount of break, that's probably the most conservative look and the most widespread. Bottom line, in order to know if a suit fits, you just want to look at the silhouette. You step back a little bit and look from a distance whether the fit on the shoulders is right, the nice tapered shape across the waist is there, and then the proportions of the jacket. That's the most easy way to know if the suit fits well. You shouldn't look at it from too close of an angle.

Become a packing expert and avoid a last minute crisis by following this strategic step-by-step guide on how to pack with stylish suitcase brand Tumi. MR PORTER meets Mr Jerome Griffith, CEO of Tumi Travel in this short guide to packing for all travel occasions. Use these simple tips and tricks to help streamline your packing process. Steps: 1. Choose it. A carry on case will do for a short business trip and a holdall is all you need for a weekend break. 2. Check it. Lay out all the clothes you'll need and fold everything up as neatly as you can. 3. Pack it. Place shoes in the gaps of the runners inside the suitcase and pack sturdier items such as denim at the bottom while shirts should stay on top. Leave larger items such as blazers till last. 4. Don't forget it. Take stock of the essentials and pack an umbrella, toiletries, electronic devices and something to read on the flight. Keep your essentials on you, such passport, money, phone and a tablet to do some last minute online shopping. 6. And if they lose it. Be prepared for the worst and pack an emergency change of clothes in a cabin sized suitcase - just in case. Bon voyage!
