There are 10 key pieces necessary in your wardrobe if you are interested in French style and want that "Parisian chic" look. At least that's what I observed among my people... A French wardrobe is curated to include timeless pieces and pieces that flatter your silhouette. On a scale from 0 to 10, how French are you? :-) Thumbs up if you liked this video! New videos: Wednesday 5pm & Sunday 12pm (Paris/Berlin time). Here is the series on dressing for your specific body type: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9e2viG3AuRML-wHc5hDJN-d7YwrSYLuE And here is my previous video about French style rules: https://youtu.be/gAbV5hJzhL4 Key pieces mentioned: - White shirt - Tailored blazer - Ballerinas or loafers - (Little) black dress - Perfect T-Shirt in several colors - Turtleneck sweater in a cosy fabric - Pair or dark blue jeans - Huge scarf - Purse where everything fits - Back and pointy high heels Take care! Where I live, we have a lot of French tourists. I can spot French people right away because the way they dress. When they start speaking I laugh Inside because I was right ahah! The hair, the glasses, the comfy but chic style, the shoes… French people really have a great taste in fashion. Less is more and you don't look good if you don't feel good in your clothes. Love it.

Me parece excelente el video. En verdad muy fino el estilo. Es una lastima que los videos solo tengan subtitulos en ingles y no en eapañol. Al suscribirme al canal advertí este detalle. Es posible que todos los videos tengan subtitulos en español? ?? Gracias. Muy bien explicado. Saludos.

Thank you Justine for your wise advices. I need an elegant blazer (I prefer Chanel style jackets in spring over dark blue jeans), a black dress (I've got a black evening dress still perfect that suit me very well, but it's long and for summer), I don't like scarves in summer, (I think it's ridiculous the scarf over a top without sleeves, fortunately this fashion has gone in Italy). I love flats but this fashion has gone, sadly. In Italy there are sleepers with high soles everywhere, I don't like them at all. In winter I love 'beatles' boots and english shoes, in summer flat sandals or kitten sandals. I don't like big bags because I'm short I and I put only the essential in my bag, for the gym or the pool I use another bag. Sorry for my bad english!

I must be very French because I have everything except the black pointed tip high heels...and the only reason why I don't have those is because I have bunions and plantar fasciitis, so I can no longer wear heels 😢. I really enjoy watching your videos! 😁👍

Justine, I love your videos, you know your profession well! Would like to see some videos for senior women as we still like to dress up and want to look our best. Thanks!

Justine, You live in Germany now. Do you see a distinct difference in fashion sense between France and Germany for women? I live in America. Have you visited America? I am certainly no expert, but I don't see a lot of "sense" in American fashions. I think we are too busy copying other people, like celebrities or other countries. What do you think? Nina

I feel so happy to have discovered your channel! Thank you for your great advice. Trying to say good bye to fast fashion!

This video has been so helpful plus the video on body shape. I recently donated 75% of my wardrobe. I’ve gone with block, white grey and touches of red. I feel so great now when I go out and I’m no longer invisible! Today I wore dark jeans, leopard pointy flats, white crisp shirt and the best thin, black leather jacket that minimizes my bust. It’s my birthday and I felt fabulous! Thank you.

Wow... J'aime beaucoup cette logique française pour acheter les vêtements! Je ne suis pas française! Please forgive any grammar mistakes! ;)

I just found you, so happy I did. Thank you! I always felt that I was somewhat out of place with how I dress, but now I know that I just need to be in France :) I literary own all the basics you mention but the best part is when you said that you wear the button down shirts on the weekend as well!- That is so me. It made me so happy to just feel so understood. Thank you!

Stop buying fast fashion, and then just save up and buy essential clothing from sustainable brands. Keep the idea in mind that your wardrobe is probably way too big and you have graphic shirts and the like you don’t wear often. You don’t need fashion as much as you think you do.
Emilia Zambrano (23 days ago)
I love your videos! I would add a black leather jacket I think they are so useful in formal and informal events 😊
Annette Davies (23 days ago)
While I love the advice given re French chic/style (and yes, I’ve recently subscribed),what most people seem to forget is that not everyone has the same skin tone. I don’t mean tan, light, dark, I mean skin TONE. I have/had natural reddish highlights in my hair (they’re starting to ash) with (as I call it) redhead skin, Fair, burns easily and slow to tan. My veins (inner wrist) are more green/blue.

María Jimena Nonato (1 month ago)
To resume, elegance is in simple things. About the 4 questions, that's what I usually think when i go shopping, so i go home with empty hands (or my impulse is stronger than me and i buy things that i can wear just a couple of times). Great video!! Oh, and thanks for that thing you said about jeans, i didn't know. I always preferred light jeans, but next time I'll go for the darker (:

At first I was so confused when you were saying "clear jeans" and "clear shoes." Who wears see through pants and shoes? Then I remembered that "bleu clair" in french means light blue and it made a lot more sense.

Hm...well maybe this is why so many people think I look/dress French. I never wear flats though...I’m too short to pull that off.
Chloe Eastwood (1 month ago)
I scored an 8! White button-down, blazer, black dress, turtleneck sweaters, dark blue jeans, huge scarf, purse for everything, black heels. I’m an American so I have a slightly different esthetic. What do you think sets French fashion items and French fashion mindset apart from other nations? For example, Americans are more likely to have staples like a clean cut jean jacket and cashmere pullovers and thick-heeled ankle boots. What do you think of the differences?
Nazrin Nasimi (1 month ago)
you are so super
Dena Whisler (1 month ago)
I’m French, Irish, Spanish (Spain) and I have 9 of the pieces. I despise turtleneck anything. Would a little looser ‘cowl’ work in your opinion? I have a couple of the smaller ‘cowl’ neck sweaters and a lovely double breasted garnet red wool raised weave (mono color) with a collar that I turn up .
Crystal Ward (1 month ago)
I go with a simple red dress instead of black because red looks better on me. I don't think the colour matters as much as the fit and quality.

Continue ton excellent travail.
Merci et bonnes fêtes!

Assuming that you don't have any of those pieces, which item to buy would be a good starting point? 😄 Thank you, good video
Je suis français j'ai 3 de ces habits 😂 en même temps je n'ai pas l'âge pour les talons

I don't own any T shirts and Turtle neck garments. As an inverted triangle body shape with a big buttom is not easy for me to find a good T shirt :( and turtlenecks are out of my list. I am 5' 2 with very thick calves so I can't find any good boots that fit and go with my body shape for this winter or any other winter

I am from every country when it comes to my wardrobe! I have a French wardrobe for sure. But then I have a preppy wardrobe, and a glamorous wardrobe, and a casual chic wardrobe. I could go on because I have an obscene amount of clothing. This would help me to get rid of some things. But, there is not one thing I own at this point that I would not have worn 10 years ago and that I wouldn't wear in 10 years. As soon as I found out what that looks good on me, I just kept purchasing. I think that may be the American way, unfortunately. Fortunate for those fast fashion houses, which disgust me. I have an entire wardrobe of ethical clothing at this point. Also, I have gotten rid of all clothing with logos whether it be from Chanel, LV, or Steven Abercrombie. Yes, I did shop at Abercrombie once upon a Time.

I love your last 4 tips! I live by those! I rather spend my money on high quality pieces I love and know will last rather than buying a piece that is cheap, will lose color and shape with in 2 washes

How about a leather jacket? Should it be fitted, or loose & sloppy (like the female property of a Hell's Angels). Should it be black? What are good brands?
Carrie Geren - Scoggins (4 months ago)
Same as in the US. Nothing "French," about it. I have dressed this way for years.

Justine, I love your videos. I would love to dress this way. Unfortunately, I am 5'1" with a 41" bust!!! Is there a way that my figure could look any way as elegant as these models do. I try to dress simply, without too much fuss, frills etc. But still not achieving the look. Any ideas would be appreciated . Keep up the good work xx

Excellent Ive got so much clothing. Your channel has made me think more on choice of clothing. I need to go through my wardrobe. Simple but quality is best. Must remember the French style. 👌💯

You hit the nail on the head and I never use soap I have had clothes for over 40 years in good shape I use ammonia very lightly in the wash water and gently washed everything inside out at times I put things in laundry bags so I will not get any rubble from other items in the wash but yes it is possible to have a turtleneck last 45 years if it is purchased well
Beverley Bakker (4 months ago)
Although I agree with your chic styling Justine, I get bored having so few colours/ patterns to wear. I like to vary so have many clothes.

Justine Leconte officiel all: buying the classics and quality clothes out of luck of western design products and total poverty. Wearing jackets and blazers and comfortable hills because ALL Soviet women were working AND using public transportation. Every day ,each season . Using accessories to change the look every day . The Dark classic denim and black color were typical . French Lancôme cosmetics were a MUST for all who were trying to look stylish in 70- 80 s . And in Soviet Union we had our own line of good quality perfumes ( RED Moscow ) , or some products from Riga , Latvian republic . Our hairstylists are still the best in the world . We were lucking the cheap junk clothing back then , but people were sawing and crocheting their own clothes , using magazines like Siluette from Estonia and then Burda . Check out some old photos and you will be surprised how elegant RUSSIAN women looked without hardly any access to any western brands and products back then. Actually , when I visit Paris in1997 I felt like I was back in Soviet times , with some slight adjustments ( we did not have that many people from Africa and Asia back in 70-80 , and we did not see so “abnormally” rich looking women on the streets in Chanel ) .

Which part?
Sierra Laney (4 months ago)
my score would probably be 3 since I don't wear any makeup...

Thank for a comprehensive list. My wardrobe is right where it needs to be however I've lost a great deal of weight so some pieces will need to be replaced. Lastly, one piece of clothing you didn't mention was a cardigan.
