Replacing The Oiler and What To Look For On Certain Stihl Chainsaws with Taryl

1094 ratings | 98682 views
In "Jr's Bad Day", another hilarious and proper how-to video, Taryl shows you how to replace an oiler on (what will work for) many different models of Stihl Chainsaws. He also shows you what else to look for that could be wrong with your saw and offers a home-made trick for a common problem as well. Prior to the fix, Jr. has a bad day where he just can't seem to do anything right, causing much disdain for Taryl. So sit back, laugh, and you just might learn a thing or two in the process. Now There's Your Dinner!! This fix will work on STIHL models: 017, 018, 019, 021, 023, 025, MS170, MS180, MS181, MS191, MS210, MS230, and MS250. Also use a little grease on your tap it will help hold the shavings that you blew right back into the oiling system
Taryl Fixes All (2 months ago)
It's PLASTIC for one, and 2 the oiler pushes oil out. It Ain't The Space Shuttle we're not going to the moon!

Use some compressed air to blow that filthy thing off before you work on it.

Great Video Taryl as always. But pulling My hair out on 2 things after tearing down my 019T. 1st, having a hard time locating online parts that carry Stihl parts. My local parts store closed and online proving difficult. 2nd for Stihl parts what number besides model 019T do I need to order parts? I have looked hi and low on saw for a serial number or a spec number which is what I usually use. Any help appreciated. I really usually just find a part store and enter model and spec and go from there.

Good show my friend. Just what I was looking for. Ran my ms 290 without bar and had nothing. You showed the reality of revving the saw for a while and then oil coming out. Thanks much.

Taryl i use alot of mcculloch titan chainsaws and i'm always looking for parts, if you come across any and want to get rid of them for a few bucks let me know. Also i have a great parts network and have been doing this a long time, so if there is something i can find here for you, just leave a comment. If you like fishing and you can ever get away i would like to invite you here to the ozarks in arkansas.

The video was ok but I think something is wrong with Taryl. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe he's cross eyed or something. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Can't wait to see some more.

Good job Taryl!..What was there original purpose of that hole there at the muffler anywayz?.. To help clean out the passage way?
alex tworkowski (2 years ago)
Very excellent video.
Dave Carlson (2 years ago)
I wouldn't use an impact to get the clutch off...especially if the flywheel is on. Too big a chance of stripping the the key out. The key is cast into the flywheel. Stihl says to never use an impact to remove the clutch or flywheel.....just sayin'
zee bee (2 years ago)
hey Taryl...Ever replace the oil lines on an 036? The supplied line is so stiff its a pita to attach even with heat...Any tricks?
Carat Cranker (2 years ago)
Never mind Junior, you save a lot of money on dental floss, get over it...[LOL].
BriggsMower (2 years ago)
anouther thing to look for is the plastic housing can get chewed out if the clutch bearing gets slop in it the fix is clean it real good and use a good epoxy glue to fillin the hole in housing and renew the bearing
BriggsMower (2 years ago)
glade i could help no probs
Randy Matthews (2 years ago)
Worked like a charm, I used a little quiksteel over the hole and put JB weld all around the case. Took a little sanding to get the clutch to move freely, but so far its working like its suppose to again. Thanks for your response.
BriggsMower (2 years ago)
+Randy Matthews gday i jusst used a bit of tape over the hole to stop it oozing through then used a 2 part epoxy glue jb weld might work bit harder to work with once set i had to clean up the exess once set to allow clutch and oil pump worm to move freely
Randy Matthews (2 years ago)
Hey I have that problem on an ms180c. The clip came loose from the worm gear and chewed holes in the plastic all the way around the case. Do you think JB weld would work In that, and if so how do you keep from getting it down into the passageway?
Joe Briggs (2 years ago)
Excellent information thanks Taryl.

+Taryl Fixes All it works the pump from the 460 works on the 361 now bar is getting oiled properly. Sorry it took awhile to get
Thanks for ur response. Worm gear is good it oils fine with a 20 inch bar But a 25 inch seems to be under oiling. I just order the 460 wrap oil pump same part number u gave 5cc to 24cc 361 is rated for 15cc. I am going to try and see if it works. If it doesn't or does I will let u know. Thanks again. Also thanks to the EPA for these problems
Taryl Fixes All (2 years ago)
The MS 361 & 341 parts interchange oiler part # 1135 640 3200 the 460 uses a oiler part# 1128 640 3250 I don't think they interchange. I never tried it. A lot of stihl parts are used on other models but the part numbers are the same number on the other models. I get a lot of customers that complain about the the new model Stihl saws that replace the old models as being weak compared to a older model saw. I don't know I only repair them. Maybe replace the oiler. A site I have been buying Stihl aftermarket parts from that have good quality is HUTZL .net They have that 361 oiler. I would also replace the worm gear & clip. Maybe the clip on the worm gear is slipping that would make it oil less.
+Taryl Fixes All LLC how you doing I was wondering if you can help me out. I have an ms361 Stihl saw. I have the oiler maxed out it is oiling I just feel it's under Oiler for a 25 inch bar. now I've heard you can switch out the oiler for a 460 Oiler butt I do not know if it will fit. would you happen to know if it does so this way I can increase the amount of oil that is delivered to a bar. Thank you
