How would you suggrst doing this if you dont have a sleeping bag but have a specific fabric you want to use? Do you think if i were to mimic the lining (padding, lining ect) then alter a pattern of another coat that i would be able to get the same effect? Sorry if i worded it poorly

Super crafty beautiful lady!
Cerenade Me (3 months ago)
VERY cool. If you would have used the bottom of the zip your jacket would zip up cuz you can shorten it at the top. You'd have had to do something else for the bottom of the sleeves though. Still cool. Thanks for the tutorial!

looooooks great. i want it

As an idea is brilliant, but since sleeping bag is prequilted and the jacket double sided then can not overcome the visible inside seams. Also i think there is no way to reuse the cutted zipper.Personally i sew for hobbying and i have made some hooded insulated pullovers that can be worn under a pullover or a jacket with the same philosophy about converting the materials using prequilted polyester insulated fabrics that used for cloth insulation, but looks like a normal jacket priced less than 20euro!!!The ability to make ideas to come true is the most impportant.

You're great. Thanks for sharing this!!! I never thought of using an existing sleeping bag... I made a coat out of a duvet once but it was SO HEAVY it was unwearable!!! (needless to say it was a cheap duvet with a lot of hard feathers)

😍😍😍😍😍 I'm doing something like this for fall 2018
slvrserfr (1 year ago)
Very nice result and creative idea! Adding a hoodie to it would have been a nice addition - granted needing more drawstring and maybe velcro but still a great style nonetheless!

You made a bang-up job of this jacket!! You were pretty brave to wade in with your scissors like you did. Did you use a standard UK Adult sized Sleeping Bag? Or an XL one? And what UK size would you be if you bought a puffa coat. Thank you. May I ask why you didn't pull the sleeping bag inside out to do the cutting and then sew the seams closed in the normal manner? You had the bottom of the jacket open at this point so could have turned all right sides out from there or wouldn't it have worked? & finally, is this the first one you made? Or did many test sleeping bags die in the making of this video?
Essem Sween (1 year ago)
Bira It did Thank you. Really good idea, well put together. !!
Bira (1 year ago)
Thanks, I used a standard size sleeping bag and standard size for me in coats is 8-10 but 12 if i want it oversized. I had the bottom open but the stitching design was still through the rest of the sleeping bag so I didn't really want to undo it all. And the answer your last question this was my first attempt surprising lol just had the idea and filmed it, hope that answered your questions :)
Frankie Oprenario (1 year ago)
this is genius!!

the only thing I've sewed is my guinea pig a bed lmao, but I'm going to attempt this lmao

Marta Motevassel (1 year ago)
Im about to do this (gonna tag u on insta) but the stitching on the sides of the body, surely should be a hidden stitch? Since you cant just stitch it then turn it inside out to make it look seamless and nice. I might hot glue it or something just cus the h looks stupid on the side of the jacket. When it jump cuts to you adding the drawstrings to the sleeve cuffs, i cant see the messy seams? Did you do something to make it a hidden stitch? Ive been searching for a DIY sleeping bag puffa jacket tutorial for over a year not joking A dude i know used to have an actual sleeping bag that was made into the most PENG puffer jacket parka thing. It was fucking insane it looked mad i swear you would have loved it. My grandma was the head of costume making at the theatre royal, so i got her to help me like 9 months ago to make one, but half way through, like after i had found a suitable sleeping bag and got everything, she got ill and died :( so ive got all the stuff to do it, just sitting there in a box. So happy i found your channel. This is fate haha. Your jacket is exactly like a Patagonia, its a vintage one that reverses in the same colours. Love that you kept the regatta logo on the sleeve too. Deffo make another one and video it. Would love to see a hooded one too and an elasticated bomber jacket one thats elasticated at the bottom (i sometimes dont really dig that look, but i have a calvin klein one and a nike one that are like that and they are cool). Great tutorial my dude

Very creative. I like it
bria mills (1 year ago)
Can you do a puffa coat from scratch??? Please!!!!!!
Marta Motevassel (1 year ago)
bria mills you can just buy the wadding and padding, or get a sleeping bag? Ive tried to make one from scratch and its possible but u need really good quality wadding and padding, like seriously its expensive to make a good one from scratch. Just get a second hand sleeping bag. U can get mad cool sleeping bags that are retro and got cool patterns, you can experiment. Also buying the outer shell fabric for the jacket is a pain, u have no idea how hard it is to find one. U gotta buy like windbreaker material online, which sucks cus its expensive and u really need to see it in person. Why dya wanna make one from scratch so bad? I too would love her to do it too but its deffo harder to do in my opinion.
Okaybutshesbroketho (1 year ago)
If we wanted to, how would we ba able to add pockets ?
Marta Motevassel (1 year ago)
Demiya Syrai cut out a pocket shape and sew it on? I have a puffa like that (theres one on asos right now with that pocket style). What type of pocket do you want? Hidden pocket? Zip pocket or just something to put your hands in?theres tonnes of tutorials on adding pockets but if ur more specific i can help maybe. Its a cool idea, i will add pockets to mine probably !
Shakira Millard (1 year ago)

You inspired me to get a sewing machine
Melissa Harkins (1 year ago)
Ur videos are very good however, u need to tell people what needles, thread and stichticng pattern ur using. This is all useless information unless u know those three very useful pieces of information. Please add this to ur videos because different materials requires different needles and thread for items to hold up to the wear and tear of clothing
Marta Motevassel (1 year ago)
Melissa Harkins she actually said "straight stitch". U gotta use common sense and alsp have basic knowledge of sewing. Watch some sewing 101 basics tutorials before trying to make this lol. Use whatever thread u like. Maybe not the cheapest. Use a stronger one. I like to use more expensive ones cus they are often coated and stronger.
Marta Motevassel (1 year ago)
Melissa Harkins lol wut..... do u even have a machine? Who tf mentions what needles they are using? Not one sewing channel i am subbed to does that. U use whatever needle fits ur machine. Only thing worth mentioning is whether they are using an overlocker, or double needle. Are you insane? What sort of specific info do u want on the damn thread? Chile ya numpty.
Paradise Eternal (1 year ago)
Great job. How would i add a zipper?
Natra (1 year ago)
I had a hard time getting the cotton part through th emachine, the cotton was getting stuck... how did you solve that problem?
Marta Motevassel (1 year ago)
Natra Z what do you mean the cotton part? What machine do you have? Why didnt you just lift up the needle? You do realise you can lift the foot up yeah? Its ok i forget about it sometimes haha. For thick fabrics and padded and quilted projects, u gotta lift the foot up!!!!

If you live in a cold cold climate, i reccomend using a sleeping bag lined with flannel instead of just a regular ole padding. Its a little more expensive but so very worth it if you dont wanna freeze to death

Did you use the zipper from the sleeping bag as the closure for the coat? If so how did you prevent the zip from separating from the teeth?
