That 65 Ford Custom is cool !
ThunderHead289 (6 hours ago)
Thanks, I need to bring it back to life this next year
Havoc Man (14 days ago)
That thing needs a 429 or a 460 and a NASCAR/Truck Arm rear suspension.
Michael Johnson (16 days ago)
So yeah anyway Yeah so anyway so..........lol. Crackin me up! Good luck getting home.
ThunderHead289 (16 days ago)
Yeah, my public speaking has improved as I have went along 😂 Oh boy this hurts to listen to. Technical guy = bad public speaker 😂
Brian Kidwell (24 days ago)
My greatest fear sitting in traffic boiling my engine and alternator with the fan screaming with a large cam idling is not the greatest option
William Blakeley (24 days ago)
like the car definitley .good job red neck ?😄 in college 😮. keep it straight ✌
ThunderHead289 (24 days ago)
I’m actually an employed engineer in 2018. “Redneck” is how we say it here.
Bryant1939 (1 month ago)
Custom though not a Galaxie
Gary Winters (1 month ago)
Kick ass! Reminds me of when I was a kid with a 66 fastback mustang wasn't pretty but she ran like a raped ape. Great video fantastic hot rod bud!
dewey dodo (1 month ago)
kind of lame hood scoop if it don't do anything .
ThunderHead289 (1 month ago)
Only reason it’s on there is because it’s always been - it’s off of a 70 mustang. Some things you just can’t change
Darell Gholston (1 month ago)
Great car and video!!! Where is the oil spatter coming from on the trunk?
The Memulous (2 months ago)
What's the song in the intro
harleyguyinmilw (2 months ago)
a coat of paint and a set of Chrome Magnum 500's and that car would be perfect!! (I'm not a "ford" guy, BUT, those 65-66 big Fords were some of the best looking cars to come out of Detroit)
Mark W (3 months ago)
Sweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!
Timothy Mychaluk (3 months ago)
He sounds like he's from Iowa.
Sam Campbell (3 months ago)
Loved the video Luke. Good job.
Daniel McQueen (3 months ago)
I came across your channel about a month ago, you guys got that 65 F-250 running out of the woods! Way Cool :) I'll say that I want your doing, reminds me of Back in the Day. I got my Mom's old 71' Galaxie 500 2 door running after a 20 year sit. 351 Windsor and rebuilt it with Cleveland heads! Next is my 72' F-250 390 Camper Special that's been sitting 18 years now and after watching your videos I think I'll have no problem getting that beast running.
buddie noffsinger (4 months ago)
nice 65
Mark Osborne (6 months ago)
Love this !... My favorite year Galaxie
ThunderHead289 (5 months ago)
I need to put this back on the road. Parked it in the barn after Virginia and haven’t got back to it!
Frankie Rutherford (6 months ago)
Love your work brother. True old school
Derpy Derp (8 months ago)
You know those toll booths are ran and operated by Mormons. My buddies girlfriend he met online her family lives off that shit. It’s ridiculous. Hopefully trump puts a end to it
Esprox (8 months ago)
oh boy. suffolk is pronounced like "suhffik"
ThunderHead289 (8 months ago)
+Esprox yeah, I didn’t know that when I first got there
David Klassen (9 months ago)
Hey what headers do you have? I'm swapping a 302 into my 65 galaxie and can't seem to find headers
ThunderHead289 (9 months ago)
+David Klassen I unfortunately had to make mine - I ended up wrapping them to hide the alterations. It’s amazing there aren’t headers made for it
Fred Hunter (9 months ago)
Yeah, I live in Pa and the tolls are a bitch! Recognized the tunnels on the turnpike!😁 Another great video. I loved the road trip 👍🍻
yoboi01 (10 months ago)
That's awesome big guy

i like the car but you acting to smzrt
Trex thepony (11 months ago)
I have that same tool box!
Diz MacDiddler (11 months ago)
Which mustang 5 speed do you have in there? Borg warner? does it have a detachable bellhousing? Do you know the build year? What was the donor car? Nice vids and nice car man!! Of course i subscribed...
Diz MacDiddler (11 months ago)
+ThunderHead289 thanks man!
ThunderHead289 (11 months ago)
+Diz MacDiddler anything that went into a foxbody will work - even the 4banger unit, though not ideal. They have detachable bells which works well for if you are running the old school clutch linkage and need the old bell
john doe (11 months ago)
Nice ride my man, I like your style!
john doe (11 months ago)
ThunderHead289 Sweet,it was a great video also!
ThunderHead289 (11 months ago)
thanks, i need to bring the poor car back to life. hasnt rolled since 2015 - pulled the engine for another vehicle. currently working on its new engine - the pushrod length video i just put out is on the engine thats going back in the car!
mlunden11 (11 months ago)
Stop talkin and f-in drive man.

mlunden11 the fuck
thefordmaniac (1 year ago)
How were the rear quarters and trunk pan in this car
thefordmaniac (1 year ago)
Hey she looks familar...she lost a couple doors though. And some cubic inches. 390 60 over cam n headers. Dyno at 363 hp 403 lb ft here in my 65
John Hull (1 year ago)
Did you set the carb up for OD....low rpm, low vacuum, run rich
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
As in did i tune it for lower rpm loads associated with OD? I did indeed. i aimed for 13.5 to 1 AFR and ran a heavier secondary spring for a slower opening. (i always shoot for a cruising afr of 13.5 or so due to a carb engine having all different runner lengths.
Vernon James (1 year ago)
Jealous - now that it's almost thanksgiving I've just now gotten my 67 galaxie convertible road worthy...not pretty...but driveable...and Chicagoland winter means it's gonna be parked for a few months. But roadtripping in it next summer would be a dream! Great video!
58LP Massey (1 year ago)
She sounds pretty good man
Punkin Head (1 year ago)
You have the brains to build a car but don't put a fuel gauge in it!!! Smh.... Why people do that
thefordmaniac (1 year ago)
What do you drive punkin
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
Punkin Head hey man, I only had so much time to get it done. It’s got a fuel cell in it - and I was 20 when I did this.
GalaxieCentral.com (1 year ago)
Love the video. Love the fact you showcased your awesome car. Very entertaining, keep up the great posts!
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
Will do - this poor car has unfortunately been stuffed in a barn since 2015 - it will hit the road again on 2018. definitely a car that deserves to be driven!
James Wil (1 year ago)
Did you say Polly lock?
James Kmenta (1 year ago)
Nice
Dumb Ass (1 year ago)
People that say classic cars aren't dependable probably butchered one and then it wasn't dependable
Tom Swinburn (1 year ago)
I noticed no brake booster. Can you just add a booster to make power brakes? Also front drums? Pretty simple to put discs on front, no?
Andrew Murray (1 year ago)
Beautiful old car, the small block engine would have been perfect ! :)
Butter Pig (1 year ago)
Seeing of how that 289 was handling your Galaxie with no problems made me rethink about mine. Was going to replace my 289 with a 390 but of how you said that it got up to 75 with no problems think I'm gonna keep mine in and have it original. Guess this will save me some money in the long run and have a free engine for a '55 Pickup :)
Butter Pig (1 year ago)
Fair enough. 390 it is lol.
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
+Sinis Bellemere if you can switch the bellhousing to a 390, I'd go that way. A 351 would be very nice as well, no doubt about that
Butter Pig (1 year ago)
I'm not familiar with how 289's react on the highway as I've always been around bigger engines like 302's, 351's and especially big blocks that utilize the 352. Mine has the 3 speed manual with the overdrive engage lever and want to keep it that way as I don't feel like punching a hole in the floorboard lol.
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
I do have a 5 speed that gives me an advantage. I like the 289. Economical. Light rotating assembly. Snappy ....
CtrlAltCreate (1 year ago)
Lol @ this is where this carb setup is so convenient.
Deepblu dude (1 year ago)
Cruising with the Zep! Good upload!
The Dutch Texan (1 year ago)
Living the dream! I keep wanting to get something classic, but life keeps happening. I'll live vicariously through car guys like you!
Shyzah (1 year ago)
my civic is faster. 4 inch exhaust adds about 60 horsepower and ive got 4 turbochargers as well.
Shyzah (1 year ago)
Isaac Bratton i hope you know i was joking about the civic right... especailly when i said it has 4 turbo chargers. do you know what a fucking turbo is?
Shyzah (1 year ago)
Isaac Bratton what do you think about this pontiac firebird http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/752/4389/39379694011_large.jpg
Isaac Bratton (1 year ago)
Shyzah yeah whatever you say moron
Shyzah (1 year ago)
Isaac Bratton civics are way better than any other car. no car is better than civic. civic is love civic is life.
Isaac Bratton (1 year ago)
Shyzah wow what a real American badass in his Honda Civic 😂😂😂
Jim Rowlings (1 year ago)
that 289 it looks like the H O great video u should work on the body on it those dents should be an easy fix
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
I need to bring it back again. Sad story about this old 65. She is sitting in a barn
Randall Wyatt (1 year ago)
what did you do with this car
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
It's in my dads barn as sad as that is. Once the engine is together for it, it will make a reappearance this year.
Guillaume Lamadeleine (1 year ago)
love your videos buddy and awesome advice, been watching them for a while now and great for my 84 f150 build :) I know this is a older video but w/e I wasn't going to another video to write this comment haha, keep it up !!!
Guillaume Lamadeleine (1 year ago)
haha sick :)
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
hey, thanks so much man - i really appreciate it. ill be here till youtube gives me the boot.
jack rohde (1 year ago)
I like your car but you have some strange ideas on a big car, like crappy uncomfortable race seats on a big car, electric fuel pump? why? I never had a fuel pump problem on a Ford motor, and I've owned 9, and used to cruise at 100 mph out on I 5  and I 80 for miles and miles, you have tank problems, but other than these things FORDS out last any thing on the road, and if the motor isn't pinging why worry about fuel ratio ? too paranoid.
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
I had under hood heat problems then, went to ridiculous lengths to curb the issues. Car ran like that perfect all summer in Virginia heat. I run an o2 gauge so that when I'm 1400 miles away from home and am gear banging, I don't lean it out and blow the engine. Simple as that.
Pete Pilot (1 year ago)
Cool 65 Galaxie and I just noticed the 11 license plate which is BV county so it made me wonder
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
gotcha! picked it up at a swap meet
Pete Pilot (1 year ago)
Are you from Buena Vista county? I used to live in Storm Lake and grew up in Marathon.

Kc Allard (1 year ago)
bad gallie
Steve Skouson (1 year ago)
OK, the audio is MUCH better than Mike and David! Derek and the Dominoes? GREAT! steve
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
Ah, wish this would have been more eventful, honestly I thought this was boring because it went so well! Same thing is happening to me right now in Louisville with the rotstang. Going so well it's not much to record
edwin storz (1 year ago)
Thanks for sharing, i do wish we could hear the engine running, the solid lifters didn't sound as noisy as i thought, going down the road, and yes Old School Cars can keep up, even better when introducing them to some new Technologies.
ThunderHead289 (1 year ago)
People have this misunderstanding of solid lifters, if adjusted properly, they sound like a well oiled machine. I like them a lot. Less stuff to gum up and fail thanks for the positive feedback
badsanta518 (2 years ago)
I wouldn't have watched this if Roadkill wasn't in the title. Boo.
Jeff Maney (1 year ago)
This is what Roadkill should be. Guys should have just jumped in the 69 impala and road trip across the US. What a waste. Big block swap to trash a car in a parking lot. Like your video.
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
Watch my other roadkill stuff. Way better than this.
Doug Hancock (2 years ago)
Clickbait
wartactics (2 years ago)
that car is cool
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
Thanks, need to bring it back to life again! I borrowed the engine!!!
Charles Hunger (2 years ago)
Nice road trip. Glad to see you driving the old girl! I dig the car! What did you do for your clutch linkage? Stock small block Galaxy or hydraulic?
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
It's the stock small block pivot off the bellhousing style. It was a great car, I drove it everywhere that year.
fred benson (2 years ago)
looks like a altered brake pedal for the clutch....nice looking car tho
Zan Stuart (2 years ago)
You were up in Suffolk? I wish I had known man, that's not too far from where I live in VA.
john becay (2 years ago)
i like the idle on that small block
jmaedl027 jmaedl (2 years ago)
so cool..I would love to do something like that..
Jay Groom (2 years ago)
love that body style of galaxies. beautiful work on it. were you getting about 15mpg???
Mark W (3 months ago)
That is nice. Everything looks tip-top. Very well sorted.
Jay Groom (2 years ago)
you got 21 mpg on that old girl. that is amazing. I would love to have one of them. The 289 horses it around fine? Seems like a heavy car. Where were you when you were at high elevation?
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
About 21 or so.it wasnt terrible for sure. The 5 speed helped a ton I'm sure
Gizmo Thewytchdoktor (2 years ago)
glad to see u made it ok. your old ford brought back a lot of memories.
James lutz (2 years ago)
The rear end gears! wondering what ratio when you're making the long drive?
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
I have a larger tire on this car, and I ran 4.11. A 3.90 ratio would be perfect for a truck, or if you run larger tires, 4.11 is decent for torque and speed
James lutz (2 years ago)
All in all whats the diff in that car 3:00
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
What are you referring to?
alo milo (2 years ago)
Stop click baiting by calling your videos "roadkill", douche bag
Isaac Bratton (1 year ago)
alo milo hey "douche bag" what have you uploaded on YouTube to entertain others
michael wood (2 years ago)
Hardly "roadkill" style trip. On roadkill they break down every few miles & you didn't even have to take off your hood.....lol
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
Click baiting? Just trying to show that the average guy can do what the roadkill guys do. Especially since roadkill lately has not been that enjoyable. What do you do? Lol.
CCCP Digital Studio (2 years ago)
This Summit carburetor is a replica of the Autolite 4100, designed by Ford. It was the first carburetor with annular discharge secondary venturis. Holley bought the design from Autolite, and added their own touch to it, so the accelerator pump is Holley, as is the secondary vacuum diaphragm, and the floats hang from the cover. Also, it uses Holley size threads on the jets. The original Autolite is a better carburetor if you ask me. Have one from 1965 on my Galaxie, and it runs without any issues whatsoever.
ThunderHead289 (2 years ago)
There are things on the 4100 I like better and things on the Holley I like better. Auto lutes are hrs to come buy. I redid one on camera for a 66 4 speed 428 galaxie my buddy has. All online
Randy Turley (3 years ago)
Awesome video...Everything about it. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
ThunderHead289 (3 years ago)
+Randy Turley no problem! made it back safe and pulled the motor to put in my 74 f100. a 351 is in the making.
SuperKONR (3 years ago)
Awesome car! Glad you made it safely. I love classics, they are simple to work on if you break down somewhere. Thanks for making the video!
ThunderHead289 (3 years ago)
+SuperKONR thanks so much! never broke down. autocrossed it twice this past summer and then drove it all the way home!!!
1986FordF-250 (3 years ago)
What's with all the tolls? I'm in Washington state and no tolls ever unless it's a new water bridge or something like that. I've been all around the western part of the US and never seen anything like that. Another reason to dislike the east lol.
ThunderHead289 (3 years ago)
+1972FordF150 your telling me. i usually always head out west to Colorado and such. unless your in south carolina the west is pretty dismal. ironically im staying right off the dismal swamp. . .  the best is the place to be for sure.
sharky09000 (3 years ago)
The old girl has served you well mate & hopefully carry on doing so for many more miles ; )
ThunderHead289 (3 years ago)
+sharky09000 hopefully so. im going to need it! its the only thing i have and needs to be able to put down another 5000 plus miles this summer
Lacider (3 years ago)
too bad the pumps don't have cooling fins...
ThunderHead289 (3 years ago)
+Lacider i was thinking the same way but im not even sure that would help. i just made a very VERY backyard return line to my tank and just tested it literally 10 minutes ago. plan to make a video on it in the next few days, but it completely eliminated my vapor lock problem in traffic and will allow an electric pump to keep on doing its thing. runs amazingly well. should have done something like this years ago.
