I have such irrational love for the Mountaineer’s Hut in Timberwolf Mountain. It’s near game and wood spawn places, has a work bench, and it’s like the only real building in Timberwolf, so it has a special place in my near-dead characters’ hearts
Mike Normandy (2 months ago)
Awesome watching this video and seeing how much has changed! they added so much stuff to this game, Carter Hydro Dam was so barebones and different! I love that this game came out in 2014 and they are still working on it! I wonder if it'll ever be a final product?! maybe when Wintermute Episode 5 comes out?!

Maintenance Yard has a lot of suplies, a bed, a cooking barrel, and a forge. How can it not be on this list? And the Lonely Lighthouse is also very great.
Luiz Fernando (1 month ago)
Oh I did not know that
samet tekin (1 month ago)
Look at the date of this video. When this video filmed maintenance yard wasn't even exist.
JazzyCabbages (2 months ago)
I have to ask, is the Timberwolf summit a safe place? I wouldn't imagine any bears or wolves living up that high on the mountain, and since there's supplies, you might be able to set up a supply cache or semi-safe base.
Dankkola (3 months ago)
Personally I prefer the hunting lodge over any other location. The chance of a moose spawning allows for the creation of a moose-hide satchel, and there are wolves and bears that spawn in surrounding areas. There is also a high chance of a rifle spawning, along with mukluks or ski boots. Going from the lodge to the maintenance yard is easy when you scale the side of the cliff.

The game has changed a lot, in 2018 the locations in this video are far more polished with many more items on the ground.

the muskeg region or whatever it is called is the worst, empty without any cabins or similar stuff

My two favourites are Pleasant Valley Farm and Coastal Highway Gas Station
Gun Tech. (7 months ago)
These are all fine until you play Interloper, which gives you nothing and nada at each location.
IcyKookie MinYoongi (8 months ago)
My favorite base is the barn in pleasant valley or the trappers homestead
The game does not work, my friend

Eww. If you want to pretend to be on Titanic with Leonardo that's your business. I'd rather be with Kate Winslet.
Blue Ocean Corporations (9 months ago)
For me, the riken is a horrible base location. I also require a certain level of homeliness from my base, and the banging and annoying noises make me feel uncomfortable. I also hate Milton House. The house itself is very nice, but the surroundings have eerie noises and never feel safe. My absolute favorite is the Trapper's cabin with the lonely lighthouse and the camp office not too far behind.
Awesome Girl (9 months ago)
What about the Quonset?
Gamer 101 (9 months ago)
As long as i have any decent building i can make as my base then i can usually build myself up from there. Still a useful video tho 👍

The hype train crashed at coastal highway (that traincrash)

What is fluffy? In the dam.
Brett Down (8 months ago)
Fluffy is the name of a wolf that used to spawn in the dam in the earlier versions of the game, However In the newer versions of the game I believe fluffy has been permanently deleted.

The trappers cabin actually does host a bear and wolves. It is good loot, though probably not the best place to go if you don't want to encounter a bear

no u (1 year ago)
Wow, first time playing and rushed into the dam. Was scared shitless and did not know that there was a chance of running into wolf. I am never going back in there again.
sparkz (1 year ago)
Yeah, the lookout tower isn't really the most rewarding shelter but it is still very iconic and relatively unchanged from 2014 to now. It was the first place I stayed the night in after loading the game for the first time, and watching the storms outside was just so harrowing and immersive.

SOME trees? HA that's an understatement
Raymond Pontemayor (1 year ago)
4:27 I downloaded the Faithful Cartographer update and the Forestry Lookout was destroyed in my sandbox. It sucks because I was looking for a starter base to get settled in Mystery Lake before hiking up the hill to find it in ruins. It was a cool change, but I just wish I knew that before giving up and falling to my demise.
Kyle Clark (10 months ago)
Raymond Pontemayor Also, there is a rock that you can rope around and climb down to save time
Piotr Stepien (1 year ago)
There is a new forestry lookout near destroyed one. If you have a nice day you can easily see it from many places. Tip. find camp office, exit it from backdoor, go straight and a bit to the right and climb.
Amber Miller (1 year ago)
RIP Forestry Lookout :(

There is old fallen one. But now there is same old one but positioned some 200 meters towards the rail track.

camp office
Steven Ratmansky (1 year ago)
everyone is talking about the camp office in mystery lake and im over here like "what about the gas station in coastal highway, it's got a workbench, fire, bed, storage, tons of food, lots of surrounding houses to roam, right in the middle of the map, and instant access to the lake for ice fishing and easy deer"
Mike Normandy (2 months ago)
Thats my favorite place to setup camp the days before cabin fever kick in - otherwise I like to use a fishing hut on the lake this way I cant get CB and can lay all my meat down on the ice! (along with other items) Also, If I need to escape the cold I have the fishing village cabins right there too! I love CH it's my favorite region of TLD but on Stalker it's such a bitch bc of the close quarters of each townsite and village, hard to see the packs of wolves over all those hills and humps!
David Hansen (3 months ago)
Well sir I play loper.
Catlluminati (6 months ago)
IcyKookie MinYoongi (8 months ago)
Right! There are a lot of wolves though
Jack Sparrow (9 months ago)
I’m actually in the process of moving from the Camp Office in Mystery lake to the Gas Station in Coastal Highway, it’s a long walk and I need to do 4-5 trips to actually move all of my important things but I think the Gas station is in a great area for long term survival. The only drawback is it doesn’t have a big stove like the camp office has, being able to cook 3 things at the same time is a great thing about the office

"And- Some Trees!" *claps slowly* wow, just wow. Edit- who is the "Legendary Fluffy"?
Peter B Jordanson (2 years ago)
A wolf.
RetechDragonflame (2 years ago)
My favourite place of all I explored so far is the Hydro Dam. While big, dark and intimidating, exploring the place with just a light from your storm lantern brings some kind of inner peace to me. Also why is that wolf callef Fluffy? THERE ARE STAIRS UPSTAIRS IN THE SHIP?! God damit. Well at least I guess I have something to do while waiting for bear furs to dry out, which doesn't include playing pyromaniac starting two fires over and over again.

I like Camp office in Mystery Lake very much. Great position and it's beautiful to see when you are running from a wolf.
Pagan (6 months ago)
+Peter B Jordanson How can you make arrow heads so early? You will need powerfull hammer for that. I have gone through the whole Mystery lake several times and have not been able to find it.
Pagan (6 months ago)
That was my favo too untill is saw that farm in Pleasent valley.
Rick Hustwick (2 years ago)
Same. I always use it as my first base as it's a nice central location (and often there's a bunker not too far). I try and manage 30 - 50 days here before moving on to the Dam and then stretch it out until I'm ready for Misanthrope's - Good for 100+ days. Then on to Desolation Point ... etc ...
Peter B Jordanson (2 years ago)
Same, it's my favourite "first main camp" to use, 'cos it puts me at a quick run to the Dam, Trapper's Cabin and a short distance to Forlorn Musket to craft some early arrow heads.
ALS (2 years ago)
i will agree that the timberwolf summit was a bitch and a half to get to, also it's hard to see where the climbing spot is (i passed it like three times before i found it lol). It's the closest to death i have ever been to on this playthrough. I spent like 20 days surviving in the plane thanks to a container full of MREs. Thanks for showing the forge. i have been alive for months and have never seen a forge, i think that's the best part about this game is that i'm always finding new stuff to utilize!

one of my favorite locations is the lonely lighthouse, the views are amazing and it makes a pretty good base. And what are those bunkers? never found it
Pagan (6 months ago)
Where is that lighthouse? In what part of the game? What bunkers are you talking about, never seen those? Maybe you meant the dam. It is in Mystery lake, just follow the rail road untill you come to the end of it.

Foresty Lookout=The Tower in Firewatch? The Graphicart are the same and has Firewatch not played in Canada, too? Sorry for my bad english :D
Amanda Egeskov Hald (1 year ago)
I believe Firewatch takes place in the USA. And I'm pretty sure the only reason why forestry lookout and the tower in Firewatch looks the same are because they're, well, north american forestry lookouts. I doubt this lookout design is unique to these games.
HazardousHowitzer (2 years ago)
Of course. They've been working on it for a long time, and very hard. They aren't going to throw it all in the garbage. They're a small group, it takes a while to make a high quality game. And trust me, they're making a HIGH quality game.
anthrax (2 years ago)
+Infringe Speaking of which, are they actually gonna release story mode at at all, because "early 2016" is pretty long gone. I like what they've added, but, it's really about time.
Infringe (2 years ago)
The Long Dark was released AGES before Firewatch so if there's any copying The Long Dark didn't do it
anthrax (2 years ago)
+kirin I think you misunderstood, if they've existed since before both than Firewatch didn't base if off The Long Dark. Yeah it may remind you of that, but Firewatch didn't base it off of that one.

Story mode needs to get here like.. Now. Lol. I'm so sad, i had been surviving for 85 In game days on TLD and the funny thing is. Is that just before i died i had a good 4-5 day journey from the bottom of timberwolf mountain to the plane crash, and during the journey. I SHIT YOU NOT I came Within a HAIR Of Death (I was at 1%) at one point and BARELY Made it and spent the next few days from there constantly leaving a cave to go out to scrounge together firewood to keep myself warm and each time i did it my condition went from 11% to 3% and so fourth. I ended up getting lucky and a wolf killed 2 nearby dears and i was harvesting them for food 5kgs at a time. Anyways, it was a fucking struggle. But i Didn't die on Timbberwolf, Nope. I died outside of timberwolf in that wrecked cabin next to the rope that you use to get into timberwolf mountain.. And i was at 100% condition.. I got hyperthermia cause i slept in there with a fire i lit until morning.. And froze to death. HOORAY! .-.
Stormwolf1O1 (1 year ago)
Sev3617 and next to that destroyed cabin was a nice, warm abandoned prepper's cache. Congrats!
The VERY FIRST time I ever made it to the plane crash, I spawned in the Deer Clearing and decided to trek to the summit from there with nothing but my starter supplies. I had to live off of Reishi and Rose Hip tea and nearly starved to death. I reached the summit in two days, but when I got there, there wasn't a hacksaw. I had read online and watched let's plays where a corpse spawned holding one, but the corpse in this particular world, by terrible odds, was empty-handed. I had reached the food and supplies I needed but had no way to access it, and I didn't have enough supplies on me to make the journey to the Mountaineer's Hut. I died.
Alex Florczyk (2 years ago)
+AFoxInAviators I'm surprised how u lived. It happened the me before, I was walking through mystery lake when I feel down a cliff. I had a broken leg and I had hypotherma. My condition continued to slowly go down as I slowly limped towards where I thought the actual lake was. To my disadvantage, night came. My condition was at about 20 % so I decided to lie down and die. I found some sticks and I built a small fire. I then put down my bedroll and I went to sleep. Some how I woke up still alive, and my condition went up a little even though I lied in the cold in a sleeping bag for a couple hours. After waking g up I walked to the lake, and I got my condition back up in one of the cabins.
AFoxInAviators (2 years ago)
I had been chilling in the farmhouse on pleasant valley for a couple of days (game was about 40 days old at the time) and decided to go wandering around. I found jackshit and decided to spend the night in a little messed up house after getting really cold. I managed to survive till morning but woke up at 30% condition with hypothermia. I tried to make a fire but had spent it the day before, every time i'd go look for sticks my condition would deteriorate another few %. I finally said screw it and just ran out hoping to find shelter. I wandered, delerious, for a few minutes before coming up a small incline to see the flat field with the farmhouse in it. I managed to limp to it, reached it at about 5% condition, and tried to get in a door. Unfortunately, my vision was so blurry I spent 3% of my life clicking on a window. (It was blueish, just like the door, okay?). I managed to round the house and get onto the porch, my condition hit 1% as I fumbled around (your mouse gets shaky AF when you hit like 15% condition) and managed to click on the door before I died. Long story short I lived and got up to day like 80 before I got bored and started a new game, lol.

forestry lookout makes me think of the lookout in the game firewatch XD idk why it has the same feel to it
Getsouko (3 years ago)
TDL has the same graphic style with Firewatch. Combined with the forestry lookout wich is a mayor aspect of firewatch, its very possible those games feel similar to you XD
