Awesome informative video! I was actually admiring the muted make up colors on you when you mentioned them. I’ve been slowly doing this. Works best. And leaves breathing peaceful space in your life and home.

Your minimalism videos are amazing! The way you approach minimalism and ways to declutter your belongings is so realistic and achievable. Loving these videos. :)

Thank you Courtney!

Dressing Your Truth has been my fast track to figuring out what to keep. It's really helped me fine tune my closet. I love the clothes I'm spending more time in and shopping is way more effective.
Jammie Macias (2 years ago)
Very inspiring Mary. I think it's time I do some decluttering. Thanks for a great video.
Sky Rally (2 years ago)
Hi! im a new subbie and have been on my minimalist journey for about two years now. I have gotten rid of a lot of clothes and seen soooo many vids but what you said about the shape of necklines and mentally noting patterns in clothing hit the nail on the head! nobody has mentioned this is so much detail and it was a huge eye opener. Thanks so much. Off to clean out my wardrobe now xx

Mary, i' m moving back into my house starting in less than a week. I'm completely thrilled! I'm going to start with an empty house and go from there. I'm not going to move anything that I don't need or love. I am not rushed to move so its going to be a process. I am thinking I will make videos of this process. You are very inspiring.
Janie Super (2 years ago)
I decided last night I have to donate my magazines, which I wasn't going to do, but I realize that I must. Also, I finished my first video but havent posted it yet.
alovetart (2 years ago)
That sounds amazing, I love it! You are going to have some work cut out for you re: donations, but it'll be amazing

This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched on this subject, if not THE MOST. Thank you for making this.

Can you show how you keep up with all the toys and cloths for your daughter?
Harp Strings and Wings (2 years ago)
I think you helped explain a lot, with me its eye shadows. I love a variety of color because I'm an artist and I like having a color palette, but find that I only wear pinks purples and earthy tones for eye shadow and I don't really wear much else. I also realize that I love shimmer in my makeup. With clothes, I love pastels the way they look in me varies greatly and most wash me out. Great tips thanks!
Renee CA (2 years ago)
Wow!! I lost touch with your channel, and haven't seen you in probably a year or so. What struck me in watching your other minimalist video and even more so with this video, is how beautiful you look. You truly are finding what is your best overall look-like you said, some of the colors you used to wear may have been "pretty" but that's what stood out-the bright pink lip, or the burnt orange eye shadow. Now everything is in harmony and we see you; the overall picture is softer, more polished, and elevated.
Natalia Londono (2 years ago)
I loved this video, very motivational I am very good at decluttering clothes and everything but I still have clothes that I feel extremely uncomfortable with, because 1 they are way too fitted and i like loose clothes and 2 I dislike the style I think is time to do a closet analysis and get rid of stuff and by my style little by little
meldie lynn ♡ (2 years ago)
I love watching your channel , you are just to pretty 🤗⭐️💓
Tracey T (2 years ago)
What jumped out and slapped me in the face was the notion of buying things because they're pretty even tho they're not necessarily pretty on you! I have so many things in that category..time to purge!!
Vanessa Gira (2 years ago)
Thank you for sharing this, I'm on a similar journey now. &Your eyes are beautiful! xo

Thank you for another inspiring video.

I was forced into minimalism in clothing because of a sudden surgery back in February. I lost 30 pounds and virtually nothing in my closet fit me anymore. I realized as I was stuffing bag after bag full of clothes, I didn't really feel like I missed anything that much that I wanted to find it in my new size. Getting rid of clothes is really much easier than it seems. And your tip about looking at what you love to help you know your style so what do do invest money on is so smart!
Steph (2 years ago)
Thank you for continuing this conversation; it's so refreshing.
Jessica Imamura (2 years ago)
Such a great video. I have been struggling not bringing more things in after I have purged. I think merely just out of habit. I was wondering if you have had that problem at all or if you may have challenged yourself to not make mindless/boredom/habit purchases?
Becky Riesinger (2 years ago)
Great tips Mary!! I'm on a similar path myself, donated 3 large bags of clothes and am thinking about going through my clothes one more time. I love the new direction of your channel. :)
Glitterarian (2 years ago)
I just love these videos. They are so inspirational to me. I'm going thru a tough spot financially right now and had to move in with my sister. When I moved (first time in my adult life) I realized I had so much stuff that I didn't use or didn't need. It was crazy. I had been inspired by your minimalism videos and was able to really throw a lot of that stuff away or donate it. I'm still in the process of decluttering my life even at my sister's because I just want to live more simply. I wish my sister and her gf could be as inspired by you, they are both hoarders, in an almost clinical sense and it causes me a lot of anxiety. sigh! Keep the videos coming, your advice is great and I look forward to hearing how your journey progresses.
ja9smitty (2 years ago)
Loving these videos! Definitely in a similar place in life right now so it's so nice to hear about your experiences. :)

I miss your candles burning in the background and your pretty decorations. I could smell the Bath & Bodyworks scents through the screen!
I had subscribed to you well over 4 years ago. I ended up unsubbing because it was the same as so many other you tubers- overconsumption. I'm so happy I came across your channel again! Resubbed and cannot wait to see more videos like this! So refreshing !

Thanks for checking up on me!

This was so helpful, Mary, thank you! :)
Pamala Hanson (2 years ago)
Thanks for sharing and giving some great advise about clothes. I also come to realize that some need to do Kon Mari more than once with some things like clothes. I am working towards a capsule wardrobe with less pieces in our wardrobes and able to use and wear all these pieces vs stuff in closet just hanging. I am going to pull everything out and put in categories like you suggested, I know my colors run towards blues, greens, and yellows. I thought I was the only person who does not like turtlenecks😊 I found some who doesn't like them either.
alovetart (2 years ago)
I hope it works great for you, I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe too!
Lauren Ciampi (2 years ago)
Great video! My problem lies in buying too many of the same "type" or style or color. I have probably 20 black tanks, white and so on. Wondering why I do that??
alovetart (2 years ago)
That's a good question, do you like some more than others? I'd say get rid of the less than favorites and call it quits at that.
Anu A (2 years ago)
Thanks Mary, I hope you keep us along on your journey of minimalism. I would like to start doing that with my clothes, shoes, make-up etc. Please provide more tips!

Your hair color is making your eyes POP!! Slaying it!!!!

I have been doing a decluttering of my home for a few weeks now. Last week I decluttered all of my bright lipsticks and nailpolishes. I am a neutral or dark polish girl really. Sometimes red. Today I decluttered toys and books that are no longer used/read. I kept some books for sentimental reasons of course. I find myself happier when I surround myself with things I actually use and enjoy!
alovetart (2 years ago)
I totally agree, I feel more relaxed too!

Great video! And the last point was great about the difficulty of repurchasing. Like I de cluttered my T-shirt collection and any could be repurchased for less than $20 easily so I purged. But jeans I kept a lot because my weight fluctuates, it's really hard for me to find jeans that fit well so if they are in my closet at one point they fit & I loved them. So it's not improbable that they'll fit again one day & I'll want them.
Deb InPEI (2 years ago)
The clothing area is my hardest to keep real with.. I will purge and feel good but soon after I am replacing things and repeating the cycle 1 or 2 times a year so obviously I have not made it work in my mind clearly yet. This is me wanting and acknowledging I want more of a capsule wardrobe lifestyle...........but my habits have not changed, its a process. Thanks for sharing.
alovetart (2 years ago)
A process is right, it's a way of life. Just like changing your eating habits, there isn't a finish line
doremifasowhat (2 years ago)
Love this one too! I'm at a place where I'm trying to be more realistic and rational about everything in my life and less impulsive, etc. Excess is something we all need less of.
alovetart (2 years ago)
I wish I had gotten to that point sooner, I hear you!

I love purple, all shades of it, but I cannot wear it, not with makeup or clothing. Alot of people can pull it off though, but I'm not one of them! I actually gave my purple lipcolors to my little girl just to play with, lol. I did a de-cluttering after we moved a year and a half ago. But, I really need to get in there again and update. Maybe I'll do this for the fall season. :)

Hi Mary, I am really enjoying your new focus. Thank you!!

After having my son, I kept a bunch of my pre-pregnancy clothes. And although I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight, my body is definitely not the same. Certain things didn't fit and made me feel bad about myself. Every few days I'd try something on and get really down. Then one day I just had it and got rid of about 75% of my clothes and only kept things that fit. It was amazing to not have constant reminders of what I used to look like.
alovetart (2 years ago)
Absolutely, I hear you!
Lisa Kufner (2 years ago)
I hope you continue these videos! I feel like I'm in the same mind set right now and they are really helpful. Thanks!

Joshua Becker talks a out decluttering your "fantasy self". I saw an article titled Introvert Style: My 3-Color Closet. After looking at it I was like oh. It's kind of what I've been doing g with going through my closet and recent purchases. I have been more mindful of color. I do work in an office but I can wear pretty much whatever with the exception of when I travel for work. But I'm also wanting to find a new job and I have activities that I do that I need to keep certain clothier on hand even though I don't wear them all the time.
Denise Marie (2 years ago)
Wear that electric pink once in awhile when you're feeling kinda wild! :D

You've inspired me to go through my house (and makeup collection) and declutter like this! I know I'm the type of her who hates having too much of stuff....and having my closets SO full and my cabinets SO full drives me crazy. I plan to go through my house this month and ask myself these questions. Can't wait to have LESS!!!! 😀😀😀

I really needed this today! I am up at 4:30 this morning working on decluttering my life and you always inspire me with your take on things. My closet and hair/makeup area are my chores today after working all weekend on my kids things. I am feeling a bit embarrassed at the amount of stuff we have amassed! It is staggering and ridiculous. New attitude going forward for sure! I am truly only keeping things that make my heart smile and the joy in letting it go and giving to someone in need is so freeing. Thanks for the advice!
alovetart (2 years ago)
What a great comment, that's awesome Robin! Well done you!

Love this! I also have a creative background and have worked many years as a stylist. I see beauty in everything and i "get" most trends, but that doesn't mean it's something for me. I always have had heaps of jewellery although i never wear long/chuncky/big accessories, so i stopped buying it. It can be hard, especially nowadays with all the social media and blogs and what not. I see so many Bloglovin nock off woman walking around, looks like they stepped out of a picture from Instagram lol. I guess we all have to go through a phase of self exploring and identity seeking. I have definitely "lost" myself after having kids, but i feel like i'm rediscovering myself all over again. You can pass anything with a collar on to me, Yay for collars hahaha. I'm a preppy girl for life!!! ;D
alovetart (2 years ago)
I know what you mean! Social media is crazy, it's odd how much it has infiltrated our lives. Self exploring for the win!
Normal Beauty (2 years ago)
When I decluttered my closet about a week ago, I spread everything out on the bed. It was shocking to me how much clothes I had and how many pieces I had never worn, even though they had been in my collection for well over a year. I decided to pick all of my absolute favorite ones out of the pile and got rid of everything else. I had a few really tight dresses, that were super pretty, but I don't feel comfortable in super tight body hugging dresses, so I got rid of them. I also bought a few items inspired by some really beautiful girls on YT, but I'm older than them and I'm not sure if I can get away with wearing them. Also I'm a " sale-victim". Once something is on sale for let's say 3 euros, I will buy it even though I wouldn't have bought it at full price. I'm going to try to not buy so many sale items and just only buy those few items that I know will really suit me and make me feel happy and comfortable. xoxo
alovetart (2 years ago)
I stay away from sales now, I used to only shop those areas but I absolutely get sucked in and make excuses for a piece to work for me! I feel you!

... Hey Mary, what are you thoughts about cards, you know bday cards, farewell cards, xmas cards you get from people - do you keep them? (if you receive them) Any suggestions on what to do with things of this nature? THANKS!!! Hugs from New Zealand!
alovetart (2 years ago)
I've actually been going through a lot of mine and I set them aside because I'm just not quite sure what to do. I always get rid of Christmas cards when the holiday is over (I used to hold onto them for years). I have kept ones with a message inside (not written by the card company) and will have to come back to them again.
nzhels (2 years ago)
awesome! That's easy enough! I've had these for too long - YEARS!!!! Out they go! Thanks!!!!!
karindwarswaard (2 years ago)
I only keep cards that i get when someone died and and carts i get from people when they have a baby. Birthday cards/ x mas cards i keep for a week or 2 and then i get rid of them.

I started my minimalism journey with my clothes. My closet was full of clothes and would always think, " I don't have anything to wear" or revert back to the same outfits. I donated clothes that made me feel ugly or fat and kept the clothes I really loved. 💖 From here, I started to look around my home and make up collection as well. I really enjoy these types of series! They keep me motivated. 😁👍🏽
Catherine Olivas (2 years ago)
That was good. That is how I declutter my closet.
Sara Wood (2 years ago)
I have several lovely shirts with collars and I too just don't like to wear collars. I want to wear them but I don't. I game into them just in case which is the wrong reason. Let's be real, I'm a mom and I wear sweats and yoga pants and leggings or jeggings with tshirts. That's it. The occasional outing with a nice pair of jeans or slacks and a dressier shirt. I have no reason to clog up my closet with dress clothes for just in case when that opportunity never comes. Love this series Mary! XOXO ❤️
alovetart (2 years ago)
Yes exactly Sara!!!!

cleared out closets this summer. I literally parted with 3 jackets today that I loved but were not mature enough for me
