Wikihow said you measure the sleeve length starting at the back of your neck. So who’s right?
mobobs1 (1 month ago)
That's for dress shirts, not for suits.

Yes , I have a question. I'm ordering a jacket, I've taken my chest measurement as shown in the vid, it's 40. That's what I sent in. On other vids I've seen chest measurements taken across the front of the chest pit to pit and not all the way around as was shown here. Which one is correct ??? Will I be getting a jacket now that's 80 inches around ???

You measure across the chest and double it when you are measuring the jacket. When you are measuring your body, you just measure around the chest.

Doesn't your suit look big on you?

Are you exactly 6 feet tall?

I walk around with my chest out from working out my back. How is puffing your chest out inaccurate. Shouldn't it be more accurate? Otherwise the jacket will create an X.
The Suit Depot (9 months ago)
If that is your regular posture, then you should measure yourself like that. (However, if someone doesn't puff out their chest, and measures that way, their numbers will be off.)

im 6-3 230lbs....my chest is 45 my overarm is 54.5....my dress shirts are 17.5 36/37....from my shoulder to my zipper im 33.5 inches...what size jacket u reccomend?
The Suit Depot (9 months ago)
I would estimate you'd be a 46L.
i'm about 5foot6inch tall and my chest size is 43,,,should i choose XL or L size?????
The Suit Depot (1 year ago)
Hey Nicky, with a 43 inch chest you'd likely be a large. In suit sizes you'd be about a 42S (or possibly 44S slim fit). Hope this helps!

Do you really want your sleeve to end at on top of your thumb

I'm overweight with a beer belly. My problem with jackets usually isn't my chest shoulders, but buttoning them around my belly. Instead of measuring chest under my arms, would it make more sense to measure around my stomach?
mobobs1 (1 year ago)
You can do that, but you're probably better off buying a portly suit in your chest size. This will be cut larger on the stomach and waist.
The Suit Depot (1 year ago)
Have you ever tried a portly fit? Sounds like that would solve your fit issue, as portly fit is cut with a more generous jacket waist. Try ordering your normal fit (based off of chest size) but in a portly/executive cut and see if that fits well. Hope this is helpful!

I measured myself at 46. Went into fancy suit store, told me almost all high-end designers consider a tape measure 46 to be a 50 or 52 in their suits. So I had to try on 50's and there were only a few options. I don't get why they don't call a 46 inches around chest a 46
The Suit Depot (1 year ago)
Depending on the designer, if they are using a super slim European cut, you may need to be resized. Agreed, it would be most helpful if all suit manufacturers used a universal sizing system.

Generally, the pants size is 6" down from the jacket size. If the jacket is a size 42, it will usually come with a 36" waist pants. Keep in mind that most men are used to vanity sizing. Your actual waist measurement (and dress pant size) is usually two inches larger than your jean size.
Daniel Gilbert (3 months ago)
When you order a suit online, how do you know what the pant size will be?
mobobs1 (4 months ago)
Bamboosticks Hongkong yes, that would be where you wear your belt.
Phil & Lyssa (5 months ago)
you can place the tape wherever its comfortable for you...at least that what my grandmother told me lol...she used to work in a suiting store...
Bamboosticks Hongkong (5 months ago)
when you say the top of waist. When Measuring for hemming Is that where my belt sits?
